Okay, so to the question about Leicester as a place of inhabitance (^^,), I'm afraid I'm on deferred entry so I'm still in sunny Southampton.
How to be a good first time applicant? Well that's a bit like asking how to pass your driving test first time, it's down to the individual and how your nerves affect you at interview, some people require the experience before they can really succeed, others are driven by the arenaline and no one will know until they are in that chair. (^^,)
I don't know anything about the points you score to get an interview, I just immersed myself in college work until the letter dropped through the letter box. I recommend that you all do the same. You've all submitted the applications so don't let your stress levels affect your college work because then your grades will suffer and all the worrying will have been in vein.
The best things you can do in preparation for interviews (and being a med student in general) are:
- Subscribe to the student BMJ
- Get the Daily Telegraph on Monday (I think that is when the health supplement is featured)
- If you watch TV in the mornings, watch BBC Breakfast
-OR if you prefer the radio listen to BBC Radio 4, both feature current events and health stories it will seriously help to broaden your knowledge.
I'll keep adding to this thread to help you all out when I get the time. =)
xXx

Hey, got a few questions.
How are the interviews set out? Formal around a boardroom, or informal chairs and sofas?
Interviewer number, 2/3/4? All doctors or lectures at the uni, or local medics, or other random professionals, any students?
How long is the interview?
I'm like a total noobie all over again.

I have been an interviewer at LMS. I can assure you it makes NO difference at all and we were not interested in your parents, we were interested in you!

Cheers! I feel less like a rookie now.
Hmm, only 2 interviewers? Fair enough. I'll keep that in mind.

BMJ - no, it's largely gobbledygook to pre-med students. Student BMJ is much better, they even have a poster thin inside with a summary of the month's medical news and developments.

we usually start at 9pm (except for Wednesdays which we begin at 8.30am with 'Tissues of the Body'). I find that i have a lot of free time that i use mindlessly and should actually use to do work...they say we need like 40 hours private study but you really dont need that much at all, the work is okay. the thing i love is that with Liecester's curriculum everythiong works out perfectly, like when we overlap with topics e.g. we did genetic disorders like sickle cell anaemia in genes (obviously) and now we're doing Thalassemia in 'Biological molecules' so its great to get a whole-rounded learning experience. Theres not much competition, everyone is super friendly everyone minds their own business really.
im a bit of a hermit so cant help in clubs area.
