Leicester - 4yr GEP entry chances - advice

I am trying to guauge my chances of getting in - are there any 4yr current students who can give examples of their grades and experience?

I am a mature student and got 3 As at A-Level (before A* existed) in Economics, French, German.

Qualified with one of largest UK law firms, worked at the UN on human rights issues, and then changed direction towards medicine.

Work experience with a physician on emergency ward duties and spent a year caring for a cancer patient voluntarily.

Your opinions....?

Hello Anat.

The four year medical courses are also commonly called GEP - Graduate Entry Programs. You need at least an upper second class honours degree to gain entry to these courses, including the four year course at Leicester.
Do you have a degree? If so, then you would fulfill the entry requirements for GEP at Leicester. All they require is a degree in any discipline, whether it be a science or arts related degree, and they do not take into consideration your A Level or GCSE results.
If you don't have a degree, then I would recommend you look at the pre-medical/foundation years offered at Bristol/Kings/St Georges/Manchester. There are more so just search for them on ucas.
Also, Leicester want people who have done significant care work along with work experience. So you're on the right track there.
If you want further information, the best place to look is Leicester's online prospectus and to give the medical school admissions team.
Goodluck!

Thanks

Thanks Rachel. I have a degree in Law so that is covered. I guess its just a question of what you put in your PS and whether that finds favour in their eyes. And of course the competition. Thanks alot.

So you'll be applying for next year?
If I were you, I would try to work as a healthcare assistant for the next year. That would look very, very good. You'd have a lot to say in your PS.
Also, try reading some books on recommendations on how to get into med school.
Oh, and read books/online about the UKCAT test they require you sit.
And yes, the competition is awful I think most people applying do fulfill the requirements. It is just up to them, picking the cream of the crop.

If you are applying for the graduate entry course then your degree should be an Honours Class 2.1 or better. The A levels are irrelevent.

The volunatary work will stand you in good stead.

I'd say you have a good chance of being shortlisted to interview.
