Interview Questions
I've spoken to some people who have done their interviews this year and they said that the Leeds interview was particularly hard/harsh
I was just wondering if those that have been interviewed at Leeds could say what they felt was tough about the interview or different from their other medical school interviews?i.e the questions asked or just the general interview approach the panel took
Thanks!

I didn't find the interview particular tough in terms of questions, you're very nervous when you go in there which may add to the pressure and you over thinking some of the questions but all questions asked are pretty standard.
I found that Leeds concentrated a lot on what I did in my free time and also another on who I would consider (not limiting myself- this was stressed greatly by the interviewer implying that I think outside the box and not just about the health problems in the U.K.) with poor access to healthcare and why. The latter was a bit more tough in respect to which group they were particularly interested in, so I just listed as many as I could think of, from which the interviewer frequently stopped me and asked me more questions on the particular group I had said.
Overall, just relax and you'll be fine, if you've prepared and know your stuff you'll do brilliant.Smart Happily Ecstatic Heartily Nepotist Angel

Well who would you consider in society with poor access to healthcare? It can be anyone really, you just have to justify why you think so.
The bit in brackets was just what the interviewer was stressing upon me, for me not to just think about people in the U.K. that have poor access but also other countries as a whole and different groups in society.
Hope I haven't confused you further!Smart Happily Ecstatic Heartily Nepotist Angel

Similiar types of questions in that area include: which group in society has different health care needs and also which group in society has the greatest health care need.
I'm starting at Leeds Uni this September! Cannot wait! I've just completed clinical sciences at Bradford Uni so I'm transfering over to Leeds this year. I've had dissection over at Leeds and it's awesome, overall first year was ace.

I didn't find the interview that bad really its far more relaxd than the one i had at manchester. I asked a similar question to shehna regardiing the question about who in society you consider to have poor access to healthcare (just do a bit of research on the north/south divide, postcode lottery: you can normally fit this in some where). I would also look at all of the extra curricular stuff you do and think of some things which you gained from them. The interview is not so academic in nature containing few questions on medical ethics (i had none) and was a lot more about you as a person. good luck

have to say i found my leeds interview very relaxed.
this isn't to say the questions were easy: they asked some pretty searching questions, but if you've thought through standard interview questions you should be ok.
areas that seemed to be important, as has already been said, were medical ethics and awareness of society
and also they asked a lot of questions about my work experience and hobbies, but those ones are easy (as long as you can remember all you've done under pressure!)

the transfer interviews for us clin sci students are tougher than the ones for school leavers. this is because the clin sci people have have already completed one, sometimes two, years of uni.
Remember, you can have it all

Personally I don't think the interview was tougher for us clin sci students. The questions were fairly standard with no real surprises tbh. Why medicine, work experience, an ethical issue and a question on social awareness.
I think that clin sci year 1 itself is much tougher than first year over at Leeds, not becasue of it's content but due to the everyone wanting to transfer and it creates some hostility between the students.Smart Happily Ecstatic Heartily Nepotist Angel
