it was a year ago this weekend
he failed his finals and threw himself off the top of the Worsely Building. he was found be a couple of other students who tried CPR to no avail.
massive waste of abilty, medicine is important, but is not worth risking your health or life over.
i will say though the staff are very supportive in any problems you have, but this might be because of this event last year.

o god that terrible

he must have been feeign somethign very awful to have thought of that..hw do they know it wasnt an accident or something..and what? the windows of worsley building library are big enough for a 25 year old to jump through> !?! ..did anyone here know this guy..i feel his family must have had lot pressure on him..as his brother and dad both docs..his brother in prague so im assuming he didnt get a place in a british med school . i know loadsa asiaans in school whos parents r sending them off to prague to become doctors even when they re not interested.. as they didnt get into any uk med schools

i dont think anyone should be forced into it.. or even kill their self over it. he must have had such a great commitment to it. RIP. ina lila wa ina ilayhi raj3oon x

ah i remember catching the news bulletin bout this time last year hearing about this poor lad, a truly tragic loss. we can only hope nothing like this happens again. Are med students only allowed to take exams twice and if they fail theyr out? surely a third and last attempt should be given? Yeh i agree aspiration there seems like he may have been under alot o pressure since comes frrom family of doctors.

It is a truly tragic story. It was the middle of June last year and i think the only thing worse than the fact it happened is the affect it had on some of those in the lower years who were first on scene. I can only imagine how horrific that must have been.

It was out of one of the windows in the stairwell opposite the library. there are no ledges to stand on, the poor guy must have just bailed out...

It's possible he was harder on himself than anyone. He looks like such a nice boy from the photo. That must have affected everyone pretty badly.

I'm in my late 40's so forgive my ineptitude. I failed paediatrics twice at Leeds (at least it means I'm safe to be around kids, as there was never talk of paedophilia in those days - mid 1980's) and they booted me. Family are/were not medical, and I had to learn things the hard way. There were no computers and nobody to ask for advice. Letters were written on typewriters and snailmail prevailed. Does anyone remember those days? Anyway, I felt 'gutted'. I took myself off to Central Europe (Not CZ) before EEA countries came into being & passed there. Then returned to UK with a 'foreign' degree. I had to learn the medical terminology in that language very quickly. Luckily I'm good in languages. My woes didn't stop there. The T.R.A.B. formality changed into the PLAB and I begged our ruling body to take it before doing a PRHO. I missed by one point. Long story short, I'm only now trying for re-entry, (only to find the whole system changing)You could say it's a Wolfe Parkinson White - type re-entry via an ectopic country. I returned abroad to do 13 months of PRHO. The story goes on.

"Just because your parents are Asian doctors, it doesn't mean you have to be."

Oh! Unecessary mention of the word Asian.

yeah seen that. i think it probably wasn't so much bullying but a reality check. they've probably said something like "get your act together or you'll end up having to drop out" kind of shock tactics to get him to work harder.
still very sad though.
