think muffin2 is getting a tad too angry here

reading through the thread, don't think gizzy's conveyed that he/she beieves that all asian med students were forced into it

gizzy also has a right to remain a mystery, and shouldn't be asked to reveal anything necessarily

don't think there's indecision with gizzy, other probs (would guess money maybe..? jus the feeling i get from reading posts over the last few months) but one thing's for certain, gizzy certainly keeps the nmm threads fresh(!)

I agree, Muffin. Deedee may have yet to observe that most doctors take their good personality 'home with them' in a manner-of-speaking - because that is their real, professional personality; however some students-to-be-and nurses (no offence - ok, *some* nurses) seem to forget their professionalism once past the hospital gates or drive. Some nurses do all kinds of naughty things when they think nobody will notice and the beaches of the Costa del Sol .. well ..., suffice to say, maybe that is why I wear spectacles, (though I'm considering a monocle). Perhaps this is in direct proportion to the salaries of doctors cf. nurses, though at present, the difference is getting fuzzy till one reaches consultant grade or GP partner. If I recall correctly, student nurses are paid for their training (I'm middle-aged so please correct me if I'm wrong), whereas medical students get zilch.

On a seperate note, I would ask readers to ask themselves whether certain gentlemen and ladies who drink eight to ten 500ml cans of 9-10% EtOH by vol. 'lagers' and 7.5% ABV cider are alcoholics or simply 'power drinkers'. Those in the Student Union may care to recall that it's up to 2-3 units per day for ladies and 3-4 units per day for gentlemen. Storing it up for the end of the week and binge aka 'power drink' 21 to 28 units is inadviseable, but you only live once. Maybe once but the length of that 'once' can be fulminant hepatic failure in ones teens (doesn't apply here I don't think) or 20s. What's 'cooler' - power-drinking or being a doctor? We all know the answer to that question

[First we gained the term 'eye-candy' and now it's 'power drinkers', though few of them were able to comment in person.]

Smile The Heart or Cardiac muscle?

Maybe so, but once you study the physiology of cardiac muscle and figure out all the calcium channels and intermediate compounds, you'll think of the heart as something people get ill with and all cuddly notions of the heart being the resting place of tender emotions will disappear as gossamer notions of 'things I thought as a young person'. You'll see. Good luck to you

'Power drinking' leads to vomiting. Vomiting is not cool therefore power drinking is not cool. Obviously can't comment on the doctor bit.

I would comment on doctors 'good personalities' but may get a virtual bashing which I don't really want right now so shall leave it at that.

Indeed, it wasn't. There was nobody to go to for advice. The sad thing about Leeds is that they can kick you out at ANY stage of being a student, be it penultimate year or final year. I once heard someone say "ohh, if you've done well in the second year, 'they' won't kick you out". Leeds has kicked out quite a number of students over the years. Some high-profile, some low. I was lucky to have plan B.
