Well to be honest, I've asked lots of people and very few know about the stereotype. According to you they must be socially unaware lol. Or it could be the "political correctness" or the baseless fear of being called racist.
But to me, it sounds as if you've experienced cases of asian medics who clearly dislike what they are doing etc.

To speak or not to thweak, that is the question
[quote=Gizmo says -;573548]wiffout reading the story, ma forts were wif the parents, but also to the 'undreds of asian students that go to med skool every year wiffout wanting to be in medicine.
Oh for shame; surely you don't really speak with that sort of speech impediment. You'll soon find out that it's not 'cool' to speak that way. Besides, nobody wants students who consider medicine less than a vocation
N.B. PureMedic got through med school many moons ago, and finds the 'euphoria' some feel at getting conditional offers rather funny. The reason for this is that he knows what awaits you should you pass exams, LOL. Also, who knows what MMC (modernising medical careers) will have you doing next month, the month after that etc. etc. He is pretty certain that, at some point, you'll be asked to count the number of hairs on your body within a specified time.

18 people did medicine in my school, (a private one) everyone chose it themselves, everyone did work experience to get a feel for the job and no one was forced into it.
it was most definately what we wanted to do or we wouldn't bloody well be here would we.
you've already strerotyped the asian community as all being forced into medicine, so don't start sterotyping private school students.
and you've got a backlash because your comments are full of rubbish and it offends people. just because (i'm asuming this cos someone said you've been in the system 10 years) you took ages to decide what you wanted to do doesn't mean the rest of us are so indecisive.

so you fink it took ages for me to decide what i wanted to do?
u fink i didnt do what i wanted to do previous to doing med skool?
why would you fink that?
if you chose to do it on your own accord then as i said earlier, i got no truck wif you. i clearly said individuals dont need to be centred on. who would deny a public skooler the right to apply to med skool, if they did really want to go.
So why are you replying wif a backlash?
VERY 'arsh language in your reply to absolute total sense.
seems to me your reply is entirely irrational.
Fortunately for you their is an edit option, should you wish to use it (and ironic for me to say so, since i just used it to correct ma spelling hehe).

Right.. its just a concidence that a disproportionate number of private schoolers choose medicine or law over any other subject then?
Private schoolers, and the middle class in general, are socialised to think medicine holds some special importance in society and thus more likely to go into it without really attempting to consider anything else or gather objectives reasons for choosing it.
Saying that though, of course not all private schoolers are like this. It is merely more likely that they are compared to state schoolers.

well said Trashers. goodness, i must 'ave been 'allucinating to even fink you were a poshie last year.
i'd like to say more on the abuv .... that if we didnt get so many people applying to med skool when they so clearly dont want to do the job (and there are a sizeable few at ma med skool and the skools i was previously based at) then it would be a lot easier for genuine applicants to get in.
So stop applying , any stooges out there! pleeze, maccas. Give genuine candidates a real chance.
now thats gonna work...like Bob Geldof ringing up Pres Mugabe asking 'im to share out his private larder lol

no gizmo you really don't know what you're on about. im offended by your really terrible generalisation of the asian medics, and you generally have a very skewed perception of anyone who you deem "unworthy" of being a doctor.
have you had bad experiences with "posh" people then. i really don't know what your undue dislike towards them is about. really stop being so narrow-minded.

^^ qed. course i dont dislike posh, and no i dont 'deem' anyone. of course i am opposed to anyone mekking the wrong career decision, rich or poor or whatever, abuv all for their own sake, not mine. Of course you share this view.
but ok, i'll delete the offending posts, before the mindless avalanche continues. rather short sighted of me to post it on NMM, not like i'd change anyfing anyway wif em.
