5th year fees

Hello,

I'm paying my own fees at the minute as I couldn't get a fees loan from the govt (already have a degree). I've heard that in 5th year we get a bursary that would cover our fees. Anyone know how this works? Do we still have to pay the fess for 5th year and then claim back or can we use the bursary to pay it up front? Anyone know how much the bursary is?

Thanks in advance,
Brian

Hi,

I already have a degree, however I am only in first year so have a while to go before I worry about fifth year fees. However I do know that the NHS bursay covers all fifth year fees and is not repayable.

what brian is talking about is not the NHS bursary you refer to.

The NHS pays the tuition fees for the 5th year of study for ALL medical students. If you intercalate, they pay 4th and 5th year of med school tuition fees (ie your 5th and 6th years at university). It is paid direct to the university on your behalf, so you never have to shell out for the tuition fees yourself. However, last year there was a bit of a **** up and the NHS didnt pay our fees until April, so the uni started sending us all threatening letters, all seems to be sorted now tho.

You have to fill in a form at some point, dont worry someone will tell you when.

all the best,
