Hey,

I was reading through the various information sent with the offer letter, and its slightly confusing, does the hepatitis B injection have to be had before we go the leeds?

It is a series of 3 injections given over 6 months, so they like you to get them asap so that you will have completed the course/only have one to go when you start at uni in september.

ask your gp if he/she can give you them. lots of people in my year struggled to get them, because their gps said the occupational health lot should deal with it. basically, if you can get started on a course of injections, great. if not, (or like me you don't ask...) its not a problem, occupational health will set you up with appointments in leeds. so don't worry too much about it.

tbh, you only really need to be fully vaccinated by the time you see patients on the wards - which is not till after christmas in your second year - so there is plenty of time to faf around with vaccines and Hep B titres once you get to Leeds.

If you do get it all done before hand - which may save some hassle as occupational health are not always the most straightforward department to have dealings with - make sure you get a copy of your virology results from your own GP and your post-course titre. You will need it as proof that you are immune later on.

I'm an international student. Could anyone tell me what kind of medical care I can get from the uni or medical school? Do I have to take out my own medical insurance for my study at Leeds?

you will be able to enjoy the wonderful NHS just like everyone else.

You will need to register with a GP when you arrive. The Leeds Student Medical Practice is located across the road from the main entrance to the university and where the majority register, but you are free to find an alternative practice if you prefer.
