hey lozzj
I think the advantages of nottingham are: Russell group, higher in the league tables than Leeds (good university guide 2006), Loads of catered campus accommodation (unlike leeds)
BUT its referred to as "knife city" and i personally didn't think that the campus was as nice as Leeds
Plus sides of leeds are: amazing student union, very SAFE, voted the uks best student city and the city is generally more asthetically pleasing
And most importantly i will be there!!!!!!!!!!!!!(could be an advantage or disadvantage lol)
I think the best thing to do would be go where you think you will most enjoy yourself (i.e Leeds)Applied 2007
Keele - Interview but withdrew
St.George - Offer AAB INSURANCE
Leeds - Offer AAB FIRM
Liverpool - Offer AAB

I wouldn't worry about league tables or Russell group - league tables change so much and the categories/weighting given to them are totally subjective. The Russell Group doesn't seem to make much of a difference to the reputation - t'ent the equivalent of the US Ivy League.
Have you thought about the courses? Notts you get a BMedSci as well but in only five years, whereas at Leeds you'd have to take six years to get an intercalated degree. I'm sure there's lots of other stuff like time and length of elective, method of teaching, facilities etc.
As for the cities, which do you prefer? Have you visited both? Personally, I love Nottingham, for the campus and the city, but you might have a different opinion of them. Leeds has Yorkshire countryside nearby, which is beautiful. Also, what about travel time/the practicalities of shifting your stuff there/back every term? Would you be able to drive/be driven to either; going ont he train with all your stuff is hard work?

Seeing as we are on the Leeds board i cannot help but notice the excess volume of pro-notts propaganda!!
Dont chose your place of study for the next 5-6 years of your life based on a BSc or an elective choice - that is just silly. Think about 1) the university itself - what facilities it has, what the social scene is like etc do you want a proper campus uni, or one close to the city centre? 2) think about the course - is it systems based? self-directed? PBL? what do you think will suit you? 3) think about the city and region - where do you want to live? both are quite up and coming, both i am sure have excellent nightlife, but can Nottingham offer you the Hyde Park cinema - the oldest and most lovely cinema in all the land??? i think not!
Seriously dont worry about BScs. Having or not having a BSc (or BMedSci) is really not the be all and end all of life. It is more about what you took from your intercalated degree in terms of generic skills, publications and other experience. So just having one without any of these things is of little use: it is worth precisely 1 point on the MTAS form.
The post further up is rubbish! there are plenty of catered halls in Leeds if that is what you want! similarly there are good self-catered flats. As others have said the league tables are absolutely and utterly irrelevant. I shall say that again: they are i-r-r-e-l-e-v-e-n-t. If you want to know how a medical school is really doing read the latest GMC report - which are all freely availiable from their website.
I go to leeds, i have had a fantastic time here for the last 4.5years, i have made a whole load of friends, got involved with the medical school and have even learnt to love Yorkshire folk. The course is good - dont believe what you read. If you want to go and do PBL, good for you, Leeds doesnt buy into that crap. There is plenty of "self-directed learning" but surely that is just life.
Bottom line: Leeds kicks ass, come here.Marc

Leeds is in the Russel Group as well.
I echo Marc's points!
Plus I think the BMedSci at Notts is a joke... it is NOT BSc (Hons).Leeds Widening Access to Medical School (WAMS) Scheme
