Are offers as conditional as they suggest?

I was just wondering whether the uni accpets slight deviation from the offer i.e. instead of AAB you get ABB, would they still accept it?

personal opinion....... i dont think so...... med-schools r xtrmly uptight abt grades and rightly so. even if lets say, u misd a grade by 1 mark, they wont budge..... simply becoz they r spoilt wid sheer number of applicants who will fulfill the academic criteria..... and i know it sounds harsh but at this stage of the admissions cycle, its all abt ticking boxes!!!!

However, if u have some genuine 'extenuating circumstances' which may effect ur academic performance.... you should immediately mention them to the admissions office, well before the reults day in august....... and mayb they'l give u some leeway. Otheriwse, not a chance..... def not med schools

g'luck

Agree with what has been said but just to add, I found this on the Leeds site, which you may find helpful:

'Applicants who fail to meet the requirements of the offer may still be considered for a place, but because the situation varies from year to year it is not possible to forecast the likely outcome for an individual applicant. This will depend on the availability of places and the grades actually achieved but even the candidates who have narrowly failed to meet the requirements (e.g. in some cases by only one grade) may not obtain a place. Should places be available, priority will be given to applicants who received an offer from Leeds which was firmly accepted.'

Self-explanatory really, best of luck

That's right... so if lots of people don't get the grades/drop out/don't meet other requirements/medical school underestimates numbers etc., you may get in with ABB - some people do. Estimating the amounts of offers to give is not an exact science (in fact it's not a science at all!) - sometimes they go over (v. naughty!) and sometimes they go under.

I got a B for one of the subjects they'd asked for an A in and I still got a place. As said by others previously I imagine this varies from year to year. My advice would be to err on the side of caution and try your hardest to get the grades they've asked for.

It used to be relatively common to still get in if you dropped one grade but these days it is practically unheard of.

I know some resit students who missed by one grade and got inf or dentistry from my college last year (they had no mitigating circumstances).

Do you think medics would have any sort of luck?

Also, I'm aware that offers for Dentistry were handed out on the basis of strength of interview performance i.e. strongest candidates received offers first.

Was this the same method used by the medical school?

These kinds of questions are a waste of time, it varies every year but the answers are always the same, it depends how many people make their offers and how well you did at interview.
