i actually regret applyin 2 clinical sciences because theres only one chance! and if you don't get into leeds you wont get another chance until you graduate...and even then im not too sure many med schs in the uk like clinical sciences as a degree or somethin? i read a thread on this earlier can't remember but only 3 uni's here thought it was ok...

i think even if i do get an offer for clinical sciences and don't get any for medicine this yr...im just gonna try and get the grades at the end of the year and reapply with a year out and lots more experience! seems more logical although some people think differently.....
lol then again I waste lots of time..

I think your idea is much better.

Good luck with application

Well then, here come my advise...well maybe I'll just answer your questions.

Quote:
20 people can progress from foundation year to year 1 of leeds uni. only 12 got in last year. so there were 8 places left!!!! so if i'm good enough then i should get in.

it's not a case of having to be better than the others!
Why do you think only 12 got in? When everyone that applied would have the 60% they needed to get into Leeds. There must be something in their application that was weak...

Medicine isnt about being better in grades, grades are the foundations, after that it is you and your experience thats going to pull you through.

Well last year Leeds did take all 20 people from the first year.

Quote:
the system is unfair. those who do badly and do foundation year end up having more chance! for the rest, it's about 10 applicants per place. but for them, they have more places than good enough applicants.
I dont see it has unfair, the course needs alot of hard work to get the 60% needed, and for some of them its their only chance of getting into medical school.

More chances..then how come only 12 people got in when there were 20 places?

And after getting the 60%, you have to apply to Leeds, you need work experience, and have a interview. Exactly like a normal application to any medical school, what the course does is take away the grades, the foundation of the application process.

It is a access course!

'Good Applicates'?? I would like to know your defination of a 'good applicate' because from how you phrased it looks like my defination of a good applicate doesnt match yours?

Quote:
hey, that's a bit unfair. i do want to do medicine and for good reasons too. i just didn't realise how much work experience was needed for applying.
Ok I'm sorry if you think I was being unfair. So I shall rephrase...

So how much work experience do you have?
And why do you think you dont have enough?

And what id=s your good reason for wanting to do medicine?

Quote:
i'm a very independent learner so not worried about their way of teaching.
Thats good for you then

So are you good at team work too?

Quote:
things just aren't going well. i think i was a bit too optimistic in my first post. the way things are going, i think i might end up with ABBB. and then what can i do?
Ohh so thats what made you start this thread. Your scared that your not going to get your grades?

And why do you think your not going to get your grades?

Well looking at your situation, if you dont get your grade (not because you couldnt be bothered but unfortunely couldnt make it) you have two choice:

A. Resit your A levels and reapply
B. Go through an access course.

Good luck

Ohh you made your mind up when I was typing all that post.

Another issue which everyone who is on (or planning to apply to Clinical Sciences) is that although 20 places have been made available, it doesn't mean that Leeds has to fill all of those 20. Say 20 people apply for 20 places, then Leeds may assess them and think that only five (for example) people should get in. You still need to have a top notch ps and interview, as Leeds still have to make sure that the right people are getting onto the medical degree.

yikess - I'm off out so haven't got the time to say why you should work hard at your A. levels, but JUST DO IT!!!! You never know what's going to happen, and you will regret not working hard.

You should do!!!

Only kidding - no one can do the work but yourself. You're old enough to make your own decisions. Just one thing that I've learned over my short life (and five years at uni) is that try not to regret anything.

All the best! :-)
