Well, an A is an A. The means to an end really don't matter, it's the end itself that matters. Plus, I really don't think all people will benefit from private tutouring. What's wrong with the good-old independent style of reading books, taking notes and doing past papers? It's certainly worked for me. Never needed any sort of tutouring.

Let me give you an example. It is cheating for an athlete to take illegal steroids to enhance their performance. It is not illegal for them to eat healthily and train. There is the same difference between trying to find out interview questions you shouldn't know and going to a good school.

Cheating is failing to acknowledge circumstance ?
LOL - those people who can afford private tuition also get all sorts of interview preparation. If one were to enumerate the top 20 questions, I daresay most of them would be covered.
Who is it that makes the judgements which questions you 'should' know and which you 'should not' ?
I guess the only cheating that we can be sure of is when people fail to take account of different budgets, circumstances when comparing themselves to others. When students get A's there are causes (unless we don't believe in science at all). When they fail to get A's there are also causes.

The last part of you post mainly has to do with work ethic actually. How much work you actually do influences the outcome hugely. It's obvious, I've actually taken part in an experiment which has started 17 years ago and is still in progress.

I respect ispi for sticking up for someone. People must realise some people in poorer schools get no help whatsoever in their application. Some people know of current medics who give them example questions. Think about it... example questions have been given, not answers.

You don't need help with the application. Think about it: this would mean someone else is applying for you. By doing your own research (reading books, websites, journals, newspapers etc), you develop your own views. This builds a stronger character. The interview process is so unpredictable that even those who get helped don't necessarily pass with flying colours. You want to be as natural as possible. The ultimate aim is to get an offer, really, not cheat.

thing is, you could tek plenty of peeple at my med skool, put them in poorer surroundings, wind back the clock, and they would no longer get into med skool, nowhere near, even for want of trying.

It's interesting that some people seem to think there is such a thing as a fair advantage or an unfair advantage. There is really no difference in a private tutor and a fellow candidate telling you interview questions (since they aren't that variable, you needn't have gone to the interview to tell someone else, you just need know what usually comes up).
It's still helping people if you help yourself, and is a matter of common courtesy and solidarity. At my Cam interview, i literally got told the answers to some questions and in return breifed other candidates on what to expect. Because everyone shares there is no net gain for any one person and intelligence is pooled.
You'd hardly attempt surgery alone, wouldya?Fresher medic*, doesn't know any medicine. Slight issue.¬
