Anyone pls??? I just would like to know about the hospital(s)? I hope Keele med students especially those in Clinical years can help me on this question. Thanks
Thank you very much for your reply. It is very kind of you.
I was planning to go there and take a look myself when I can however, as I will have to reply whether I will accept the job within this week (and the job offer came out yesterday), it is practically impossible for me to go and pay a visit there >_< thanks a lot for the suggestion anyway. I sure will drive there over some weekends and see
What I would like to know really are
1) how friendly are people around there? Staffs there are approachable etc? (I know it is silly question but I feel the urge to ask still )
2) Do you happen to know if FY2 doctors will have chance to have accommodation on site?
3) What is the reputation for teaching and training there? (and also do medical students like having placements there?)
I hope you don't mind answering my questions. Thanks a lot for your help again crog80
Hi, I'm a 4th year...and I think the hospital is getting there for teaching. Having studied at Birmingham Uni before, obviously not a patch on the city lifestyle and the Bull Ring, but then again the City Hospital and QE are both renowned for being shite.
Have you been told what rotation you are on and on what wards? I can probably give more specific advice. On the whole I think it'd be a good thing. Most of the F1's and F2's that have taught us are from Birmingham.
Yea I have been told that next year as F1, I will be at Mid Stafford Hospital doing Rheumatology, General medicine + EAU and General Surgery + GI. In my F2 year, the rotations I will have are at University Hospital of North Stafford and they are Academic Rheumatology, A&E and GP. Not sure what wards I will be though.
It would be great if you can give me more specific advice on those areas. Thank you so much really .
PS. do you know if F1/F2 doctors are provided with accommodation at all next year and the year after?
Yes, accomodation is provided to some people right next to the hospital. Only thing is, i'm wondering whether you will actually be based in the City General when on Rheumatology? The thing is, we just finished our rheumatology firm, and it was based in the haywood hospital, which is in Burslem, a good 20 min drive away. Great place and nice wards..but a bit out of the way really. GI is great, we had a firm there last year and the consultants were great, got on well with both as one of them operated on my better half.
Yup I entered that I have an equivalent degree and it still said i was entitled to a tuition loan! So strange.
Thanks! Yeh it's strange but because I don't have biology and chemistry a-levels! Ah...
As far as I am aware you can get a maintenance loan but no fee loan.
Does it ask if you hold an equivalent or higher degree?
Well done on your offer. It's strange how you can be eligible as a...
Hi Profanius,
Thanks for your help! Is the NHS Bursary £9000 for the final year tuition or is it £3500? Also where did you read that we won't get any tuition fees? I know this is the general...
Hi ChocolateOrange
As a graduate on a 5-year course you are entitled to a maintenance loan for each year of study (~£4500 I think). The final years tuition fees are also covered by NHS bursary and...
I had that choice last year, and chose SGUL...mainly due to the course and the desire to exit Nottingham. Derby is a bit grim, but the RDH where the GEM campus is is one of the newest hospitals in...
