    GAMSAT scores

Does anyone know whether we have to score above a certain mark in each of the three sections on GAMSAT or do the Irish schools go on the overall score only? I can't find any info on it anywhere.

    Short answer: Overall Score Only.

For all Irish courses you must be eligible to apply by having a received a minimum of a 2.1 in a Level 8 degree. The eligible candidate with the highest score will receive the first offer; the candidate with the next highest score will receive the next offer until all available places are filled.

You apply for a place through the CAO, and listing your preferred colleges in order of your preference. The admissions officers of the participating colleges meet up when the results have been released. They make sure you have the required degree (you will have sent in a transcript of your degree to the CAO in Galway), and discard those applicants you have not met the 2.1 requirement. The remaining candidates are listed in order of their GAMSAT score, imagine this like in a big pile with the best core on top, and the worst on the bottom. They take the applications off the pile, one at a time. They offer each applicant the highest preference course for which places remain, and continue down the pile until they have made an offer for all places available. In reality, they offer a few more places than are available, as they know there will be a few people you defer, or decide not to accept the offer. You will be offered only one course, so your order of preference is important. Based on acceptances of places, there may be more than one round of offers, and you may be made an offer for a course you had a higher preference in. Accepting an offer does not change the likelihood of you being offered such a place.

The "cutoff" is only published after all places have been offered, and it is the lowest value of a candidate who was offered a place in that college.

See the official booklet for full details: http://gamsat.acer.edu.au/files/GAMS...book_12_v2.pdf, or talk to the admissions officers.
