Is it worth applying with a 54 GAMSAT score?
Is it worth applying to Irish Universities with a 54 GAMSAT score, or should I attempt to redo the GAMSAT again in March?

If I was you I'd redo the GAMSAT as last year the lowest score for UL was 56 random selection (as far as I remember UL has generally had the lowest score)

its worth the E35 application fee
it's unlikely to get a place but irish medicals schools perform place clearing so you'd never know

there has never been clearing for irish medical school most don't go past round 2, plus there has probably been an increase in the number of applicant - few jobs, more people know about course etc. as well as re-applicants from last year

I heard at the UL open night that there is 20 new places for 2010 which will bring the cutoff down

Ya but the number of applicants has also risen, not trying to be a downer apply but its highly unlikely that a score of 54 would get you a place

Apply, but retake. For the sake of a few quid you could save yourself a year - not likely, but neither is winning the lotto.
UL class of 2012.
I think my brain is full.

Louglee,
Glad to hear you are at RCSI. How do you like it so far? Loving the LUAS shuffle?
Appreciate your comment on UL lowest result of 56. That really makes UL sound like the weakest link in GEP offerings in Eire. I don't mean all of the intake of course, but rather they offer places to the weakest candidates. Is that true?

That is a really stupid thing to say. If you had bothered to read any information about UL/CAO you would know they have more places than anywhere else and on that basis they will accept people with, naturally, lower scores. As would RCSI if they were given 50 extra places.
I think you are intentionally trying to be provocative though so I doubt this will have any effect.

Etymon,
Not my intention at all and I really don't believe it is a stupid thing to say. Have a look at the following data for final and mid-point GAMSATs accepted for 2009-2007. I think you'll see what I'm mean (* indicates not all applications with that score were accepted).
If anyone has the actual EU places for each school, it would be great to add those too:
2009 - Final Mid-Point Round-0
RC101 60* 64 61*
DN102 60* 63 60*
CK791 59 60 59*
LN101 56* 57 57*
2008 - Final Mid-Point
RC101 58 62*
DN102 57* 58*
CK791 56* 57*
LN101 55* 57 *
2007 - Final Mid-Point
RC101 60* 64*
LN101 59* 61*
Be seeing you,
Dangerman
