    Need help choosing universities!

    Hi,

I am a Canadian student going into my second year at UBC. I had been wanting to study medicine in UK and finally convinced my parents (it took me 2 years) to send me abroad for my studies. My high school average was 96% and I didnt take any AP or IB courses.

I recently did my UKCAT and got an average of 740.
VR - 550 (this mark has been bugging me the since I saw my mark..Grrrr...)
    QR - 760
    AR - 870
    DA - 790

So my question is whether I should apply to the following universities with the preceding marks.

    King's College London
    Newcastle University
    Liverpool University
(I need one more...I was thinking Nottingham but if someone can give me a better suggestion that would be great!)

I am also wondering if my VR mark would have any negative effect on my application.

Thankyou so much for your help!

Nottingham require you to sit the GAMSAT and Liverpool use none of the entrance tests. Think everyone is scoring low on the VR this year. Some unis use the average of the 2 lowest, some the average and some the overall e.g. Glasgow say 2570 or above.

    Hey THFan.
I'm Canadian too, and I got into King's, Dundee, Newcastle and Leicester with an average of 695 (although my VR was considerably higher than yours- I think 720, but everything else was obviously lower). So based only on the UKCAT, you should be fine for King's and Newcastle at least.

Thanks for the heads up on Nottingham kaodeve!

@ Laura: Yea King's would be my first choice and the second is Newcastle.

Can anyone suggest another university since Nottingham is out of the question?

    Hi THFan
If you go to the official UKCAT site,
    UKCAT home
there is a pull-down menu on the right showing you all the UKCAT universities. Personally, you should come to Scotland! Lol....

    Hi,

I'm also applying from Canada. I have completed one year of university and will be going back in sept..I am going to leave if I get a place in the UK. I just did my UKCAT this weekend. I got a low score on VR aswell:

    VR 580
    QR 790
    AR 690
    DA 650

    Average 678

I am thinking of applying to Dundee, Aberdeen, Sheffield, Southampton.. but I'm not sure if my mark is good enough. Any advice?

    Thanks
