If anything australia is a far better/cheaper option... but it has issues with residency training which aren't all that different from the UK

in terms of the US residencies; international is international... its the US clinical experience/US letter of ref's that matter the most

EDIT: i should clarify that when i say better i mean in terms of securing a residency spot in the US
In retrospect, I should have researched the residency options of an UK graduate. I want to come back to Canada or US for residency and I hope it's going to be possible. I guess one problem at a time. First worry about getting in to med school.

I know St. Georges is considered to be fine in terms of completing med school and getting a residency. The problem with the others is that we've heard they don't secure your rotations for you at times and it gets hard for you to graduate in the appropriate amount of years. Make sure you hear from the students' mouths that they got all the right rotations within the time they were supposed to. I personally know of someone at Ross who has hadto spend an extra 2 yrs because they aren't providing rotations.

yea i hear you... the only reason i applied to UK was because of my citizenship that could more or less guarantee me post-grad training... then again from what i hear, even UK grads themselves are having trouble these days...

you're absolutely right zoya, thats why i was only planning on applying to St. georges. The other big 4 aren't bad either but i've heard some not-so-nice things about Ross. I'm not 100% sure if SGU secures you all your rotations which is why its important for students to stay on top of things and make sure they arrange them themselves if need be. I've heard from quite a few people that in terms of quality SGU is very good, however in the eyes of program directors its still an international school.

Have any of you guys written the MCAT yet?? If so, how'd it go?? I hear that there's so much to study!

You now require the MCAT for all (at least mostly all) of the med schools in the caribbean.

Kam 14 - by the way, good luck on your interview!!

I've got one interview so far too (still waiting to hear from Leeds) ....I think this system is kinda flawed - I mean, I think you have a better chance of getting interviews if you were a high school graduate than a university degree graduate! Totally doesn't make sense to me...Oh well....

There are more spaces available to school leavers than Graduate entry programmes...

zeefa - I applied to Mac, western, queens and UT here in ontario and i've gotten rejections from the first 3 so far. I didn't apply to US schools because there's certain things they require that i don't have yet and it would take me another year of undergrad to get them (i.e. reference from a non-science prof, full year physics etc)... I'm currently in the process of applying to SGU

McGiller - you're right, but I think zeefa was talking about the 5 year programs... and I think that alot of it may be due to them prefering IB over a degree... which is just nonsensical if its true
