Canadian Applying
Hi,
I am going into Grade 12 this year and I live in Alberta, Canada. I have a few questions. Is there anyone who got in with only their grade 12 marks. Are there any other requirements? Also which universities should I consider? And any other information would be helpful!
Thanks!

Hi NotPessimistic, it's nice to meet you
I'm from Alberta too... what city are you from?
I applied last year with my grade 12 marks after I was done grade 12 (30-level courses). In terms of other requirements, you have to write the UKCAT exam (I went to Calgary to write it), which is a requirement for most universities in the UK (albeit others that require the BMAT). Also, you need reference letters, and a personal statement through a website called UCAS, which is the channel through which university applications are sent.
In terms of universities, I had to do a bit of research, because not all accepted Alberta qualifications... the ones I did end up applying to were East Anglia, Cardiff, Southampton, and Leicester.
Best of luck!Last edited by Amaranthine; 26-08-2009 at 06:15 PM.

Hey Amaranthine!
I'm from Calgary.
I see, well, I'm only going into grade 12, so I haven't actually done the majority of my 30's. Do you think that will be a problem if I apply this year? Yeah, I did a bit research before and I found out that I would need to do the UKCAT. The funny thing is they told me I had to write it in Edmonton... I guess they want us the spend more gas for the economy or something. Anyway, do you know if there are specific people we need to get references from?
I'll look into those universities!
Thanks a lot!

lol about the economy... I'm from Edmonton, and they told me to go to Calgary to write it...haha, probably some scheme to boost the economy...
When I did research, I was told that I needed my 30 level courses before applying... however, I know alot of Ontario students that apply right after grade 11, and get in on conditional acceptance, so maybe check that out...
In terms of references, you need a teacher reference, that's one thing they ask for. In UCAS, it doesn't specifically ask for another reference, but you can send another one, if you feel it helps your application (I did anyway)...Leicester fresher 2009

Ok, yeah, I know a guy who got in this year and applied last cycle, but had just graduated. Should I talk to the schools directly about this?
If I send another reference, do I have to mail it directly to the schools? Or is there another spot?

Yep, you probably should talk to the schools directly about it
Each school has different guidelines... you could also try emailing too, they're very helpful.
If you send another reference (supporting information/documents), you would send it directly to the school.
Good luck=)Leicester fresher 2009

Two things,PS Im half-canadian
In england our references are given by all our teachers and the main one from our headteacher
And you're lucky you could do you're ukcat there because until a couple of years ago you'd have had to go all the way to toronto. The company that runs the ukcat is only allowed the information which is why you had to go to their branch in endmonton
