an odd situation, canadian student. advice?

    hi,

I'm in a bit of a weird situation and was wondering if anybody has had some kind of a similar situation or at the very least advice.

I'm a 2nd year canadian university student, looking to apply to do med school in the uk. I don't want to apply to the grad entry program, but rather starting from the beginning again, applying on the strength of my high school grades.
(I obtained first class honours (92% overall) from high school)

in university i had no clear goal for myself, and a lack of effort led me to a gpa of 3.1 after 2 years. a series of tragedies hitting close to home has led me to re-evaluate what i was doing with my life, and i've begun to perform at my potential once again.

my question is if you think it's possible to obtain entrance to an undergrad UK university program, on the basis of my high school grades.

I have three universities i'd like to apply to, no idea for the 4th.
I got 690 on my ukcat.

    thanks very much,

3.1 is a fairly low GPA to apply to medical school with. Your time at college would be taken into account. You would have to explain what you've been doing since graduating high school.
There are very few med schools in the UK that accept high school applications, as I'm sure you're probably aware. You're offering no qualifications to the universities you have in mind. I'm sure that you can appreciate the weakness of your situation in that respect so I'll say no more.
There may be weaknesses that you haven't considered however. There are limited places for international students at UK medical schools. Competition is encouraged to ensure the best applicants get a place, and can maintain a high standard of work whilst contributing a lot to the university. I'm not just talking fiscally, but this is obviously something you have to consider.
Work experience may be a weakness in your application as well. How have you come to your decision to become a doctor? From what I've read, just having that as a goal to make you work hard isn't a particularly convincing line of persuasion.
If you really want this, I think you really will have to work for it. Finishing college and bumping your GPA to 3.6 or above would be the best way to achieve this, in my opinion.
Asking on here isn't going to tell you anything. You'll get support, but that's about it. The medical schools' admissions tutors are the people who can tell you what you need to hear.
    Good luck.
