Jobs during term time is not advisable for anyone.

I disagree. A large number of medical students work on Wednesday afternoons and/or at weekends, especially during preclinical years, in order to help finance their studies. Office temping, healthcare assistant, phlebotomy and retail sales are all areas that are popular with medical students.

The pay varies depending on the job and where you are.
Temping as a medical secretary will get you anything from £9 to £12 per hour in London, but there will be very little weekend work available (it's more suited to holidays).
Waitering gets you more like £7 per hour, possibly with tips. I don't know what HCA or phlebotomy work pays.Spencer Wells BSc(Hons) MBBS(UCL)

icic. is it possible to work for the whole 20 hours a week? i would think the money then would be enough to pay for my daily expenses?

20 hours a week is probably going to be pushing it.
The amounts that I quoted are all pre-tax, and personally I think you'd have trouble working more than about 10 hours per week. Anything more and it'll start interfering with medical studies.Spencer Wells BSc(Hons) MBBS(UCL)

Some med schools/unis have rules about this. E.g. I am fairly sure that as an undergrad at Oxford, you're not allowed to work at all during term time. For the graduate medicine program I think I remember they said 1 afternoon a week max...So I guess it's best to check with your uni!
