zenji: *pats* You still have a chance though! Waiting list is not the same as a rejection. Keep your fingers crossed. =)

I also saw that you got an offer from PMS: congrats on that! 'tis brilliant!

    Red face How to prepare?

Hi, I'm Conor and I'm from the states. I like to think i have good grades and in all the top classes. I'm currently a sophomore in high school and I was wondering if anyone had any tips into preparing or applying to Leeds. A friend of mine goes there and my father tells me that England is the place to go to get a medical degree. Thanks.

Hi Conor, well I don't know if your know the whole ucas process, but basically you'll apply through there, and you can apply to 4 unis for medicine and one other course (as a back-up). So you just pick those four unis, which I'm guessing one will be leeds.

For most unis you'll have to do the UKCAT (You have to do this for leeds) which is a relatively new aptitude test, you can't really prepare for it, and for places like Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial and i think UCL there's the BMAT, which is essentially tests your science and math.

Then when u send your application (with a personal statement, talking about yourself and why u want to do medicine etc) and wait for their reply.

If you get through this, they will offer you an interview (Correct me if I'm wrong but leeds does interview international students as most unis do). So, its likely that you may have to go there for the interview (although sometimes unis hold interviews in other countries).

My advice on this is prepare, prepare, PREPARE. there are plenty of threads on this site which help with this and on others too..just type in something like 'medicine interview' into google and you'll find stuff. but in general you should know a couple of current medical issues and answers to typical questions like "why medicine?" etc.

But yeah thats pretty much it..from then on its just a waiting game (for getting an interview especially, actually) to get an offer (which is conditional unlike the US, where you have to get a certain set of grades to officially get in).

    Good Luck!

Hello I'm from Malaysia and I'm applying for entry in 2009. I was wondering if Imperial has started conducting interviews in M'sia this year because I've heard that Oxford has begun doing so. Could anyone clarify this?

I don't think Oxford has started conducting overseas interviews now. The deadline for applications to Oxbridge and Medicine/vet med/Dentistry is on the 15th of October(that's for last year but i presume it's the same this year too)so how could they start interviewing their applicants while there are more to come. They can only start the shortlisting process after they've received all the applications. (which means the interview sessions will most likely be after the 15th)

My friend who applied for Law at Oxford was interviewed in Malaysia last year but i'm not quite sure if that applies to those applying for Medicine.(but presumably yes). Cambridge interviewed me in Malaysia last year so i guess the same goes with Oxford too.
