Any Singaporeans currently studying in Indian Medical School or IMU or Monash MY?

Anyone studying in Indian Medical School or Internation Medical University in Malaysia or Monash Malaysia?

What is the study environment like at there?

And how much does it cost to study there?

Just recently Singapore government added a few more schools to their list of approval for medical schools aboard. I am thinking how many Singaporeans are studying at there.

I know there are Singaporeans in IMU since the SMC recognises IMU's twinning degrees but there isn't a large number.

Are you sure? Medical degrees obtained from twinning programmes used to be not recognised by SMC.Dunno abt their current policy. You better enquire before applying.

    Yes, I'm pretty sure.

If you go to IMU or Penang Medical College (PMC) and twin to a university that's recognised by SMC, then your degree will be recognised. There was an announcement about this a while ago... in fact, I think it's still on the NHG's career website http://www.lokun.nhg.com.sg/ (check under "what's new") If I recall correctly, NHG and SingHealth has also gone to IMU recently to give recruitment talks.

Then again... just to be sure, you may want to call SMC and double check before you apply for any twinning programmes.

For my intake, Monash Malaysia MBBS currently has about 5 Singaporeans.. can't really tell you much about the studying conditions in Malaysia since we are only going back there next year.. (unless you want to know about the environment here in Australia)

fees for Monash Malaysia 2007 entry has increased to RM75,000 per annum.

Hi , but Monash Malaysia is not yet recognized by the Singapore Medical Council only Monash Australia. So are you going to practice medicine overseas or try applying for it in singapore?

How much are the total school fees , accomodation, study materials, leisure estimated at for your study in malaysia and australia ?

How is the study environment there in Australia? lol, Can you tell me roughly about your day to day schedule? And is MCAT a requirement for entry to Monash malaysia ?

hmm..that is why it's giving those 5 a headache.. (all boils down to politics).. but currently they are focusing efforts to get the Australian Medical Council recognition first.. AMC evaluation team will visit the Monash Malaysia campus site this month.. if AMC recognition is obtained (should be known in around 2-3 months time), Malaysian Medical Council will automatically follow and hopefully with some lobbying; Singapore (i'm Malaysian, so i will be practising in Malaysia)..

if u do full 5 years in Australia, it's around $38,000 per annum
    I pay RM65,000 per annum
The whole course will be fully based in Malaysia from 2007 onwards (ie no need to worry about living costs in Australia yet until year 3 or 4 of your course), so if you are entering then, you'll pay RM75,000 per annum (fees increase by 9% every 2 years)
Can't really give you an exact figure for Malaysia now, but if you want to follow the amount for my college days in Subang Jaya, RM1000-1300 should be more than enough for accomodation and living costs if you spend wisely..
I'll just give you my Australian living cost anyway in case you decide to do full 5 years in Australia.. My monthly allowance is around AUD$1300.. $600 goes to accomodation (mine is inclusive of utilities), remaining goes to living costs, but you can save a lot (up to half that amount) if you spend wisely and learn to cook..

More course info can be found here:

i know the application closing date is over already, but you can try because last year although they mentioned that the deadline is in June, they actually extended it until November without many people knowing it til the last minute..

You don't need MCAT for Monash Malaysia, only ISAT..
hmm.. day to day schedule ar? haha, it actually varies.. for 1st year, we have an average of around 25-30 contact hours per week (lectures, tutorials, practicals and PCLs).. start as early as 8am and end as late as 5pm.. (i'm already lacking sleep because i have 8am lectures for 9 days in a row already) not only you have to find time to study for exams, you need to do research for assignments (which is part of the assessment), prepare for tutorials by doing some reading (which most of us rarely do because no time), complete the weekly online self-assessment questions etc.

Singapore apparently is adopting a wait and see approach for the 1st batch of graduates in 2009 before making any decision whether to recognise or not.
