Admission requirements
I'm from Norway, graduating high school next year. I've decided I want to go to med school, and I'd like to do it abroad, preferably in Britain. This is because the admission requirements are so redicilously high as a result of a point system giving credit to so much stuff that you'll be 25 years old after gathering enough points.
Anyways, when browsing the websites of the british universities it says a lot about a-levels, SATs and God knows what. Obviously, I have none of that stuff, I'm not even quite sure what half of it is.
My plan is this:
After I graduate, I'm going to take the typical subjects that the universities demand(physics, chemistry and maybe some maths or biology) while in the military. I didn't take these in high school because I attended the physical education branch and not the that of natural science. Will this be sufficient to be considered for a place in a british med school? And if so, what grades am I going to need? Average from high school? The especially relevant subjects I mentioned before?
If anyone could help me with these questions it would greatly appreciated.
Thank you!

OyvindGee,
To apply to medical school in the UK, first of all it is done though a service called UCAS. (go see www.ucas.com) You'll need to apply online using that service. I don't know quite how to do it as an independent candidate though since mine was done through my school. But you can find this out quite easily im sure.
As for your subjects and what grades you require... I have no idea. Your best bet would be to call the universities that you are considering and ask them. Or alternatively email them and ask first. The universities are usually very unclear on what kind of grades they want when you are dealing with non-UK school grades and unfortunately they also tend to require grades that are too high because they don't fully understand foreign grading systems etc.
With regards to their requirements of Scandinavian applicants, the only one i have heard of is what a swedish applicant was told, that she had to have good enough grades to prove that she could get into Karolinska. you should probably get in touch with a member on here called nolita, she applied this year.
(Oh and SATs are to do with applying to America so you most definitely won't have to worry about those.)
Unfortunatly not. Applying to UK medical schools requires so much more than just the right subjects and grades (because most people will already have the right subjects and grades). You will need to get work experience in a health care related environment (like a hospital or hospice), do community service (volunteering for different organisations like say the red cross or something like that or for an old people's home to show your commitment to carig for other people), have great extracurricular achievements (like sports, music, that kind of thing). In your UCAS application, you will have to write an essay about why you want to apply to medical school and there you need to write about all your achievements. This is, in my opinion, the most important part of the application and needs to be amazing if you are to get an offer. Will this be sufficient to be considered for a place in a british med school?
Anyways i'm off to do some studying for my exams now so good luck with your application and I do hope you get some answers about the grades needed and best of luck in general!

To all medical students who are thinking of sending an email to the above poster, the medical school that the above poster is posting on behalf is the European College of Medicine, which is based in London but does not award British degrees and is currently being investigated by the GMC.
