Canadian student wanting to apply to Med school in Scotland
I am a Canadian student and I want to apply to either edinburgh or glasgow for med school. I am currently getting a BSc in med lab science, but from what I am reading it seems as though you go to these schools straight from highschool rather than get a undergraduate degree first like we do here. Can someone please help me and let me know if this is the case!!! thanks

Hey goldilocks,
that is the case - it is most normal to go straight to med school from high school here. however, all medical schools do also consider graduates, although it is a lot more competitive. and needless to say, as ain international applicant, it will be even more competitive.
i don't know how much you have looked into it, but from what i know the five scottish medical schools' official policy is that they only offer places to international students who come from a country which does not have a developed system of medical education.
i thoroughly recommed checking that out. i know in dundee that is the case. do you have any british connection, or even EU status? that may make it easier.
all the best!

Ah, I may be wrong, and if I am someone correct me fast, but is it not true that you can't apply for graduate entry as an international student? I swear I have read this somewhere.
Of course, goldilocks you can still apply, just that you'll be competing w/ the 'just out of high school' people.Fifth year medical student at Newcastle, scary times!

Thank you both for your help! another question---> if i were to apply now after finishing my first year in uni instead of waiting until i get my degree, would they look at my highschool grades or would they look at my first year grades? If anyone knows please let me know! thanx!

I'd think that they'd maybe look at both your grades. Probably you'd end up using one of your university 'tutors' to write your referee on UCAS so your degree grades would probably get mentioned there as proof of your suitability etc
But then again I don't really know (so I suppose i shouldnt be posting but anyways
just trying to help lol.) , I think the best thing to do would be to call and ask the unis. I'd make a list of questions that you have and ask them all at once because if I were in your place i'd have a hundered and one questions to ask.
I hope you're successful and best of luck with it all.Fifth year medical student at Newcastle, scary times!

International student entry
Its best to contact the med schoolsthat you are interested in directly, e-mail addresses should be on-line, as they would be able to advise you as to what they do and do not accept. Also you can explain yourself more fully in an e-mail.
