I've just read the telegraph article and do not think that he's thought about this. Not everyone from a rough background will get into trouble, that's up to him. And in his words 'I'm not a bad guy. I won't risk their reputation.' Well he risked his own reputation so why wouldn't he risk the universities?!

'To be rejected in this way, having apparently been open and honest with the university, seems very unfair' I suspect that had he been open and honest he would have spoken to the university prior to putting in the application (i'm fairly sure that's what people here would advise) and therefore would not be in this position.

Depending on which source you read; he was up-front, open and honest with the University. We'll never know, I suppose. In my opinion, Imperial's press statement gave the impression that he failed the FtP interview because he didn't show any remorse for what he'd done - claiming he'd just been in the wrong place at the wrong time and had been hard done by.

The only thing I would criticise Imperial about is rejecting him VERY late in the day, if he did indeed inform them about this conviction early on as some sources say.

At the end of imp interview they ask you if you've got any questions,l whether u've got anything to say. If you've had a good interview it would be a bit sucky to have to declare that 3 years ago you burgled a house.. but if he had maybe things would have been different to him writing a letter AFTER he was given a conditional offer.

As for, 'you've got to think of the patients' i agree to an extent, but patients are hardly angels themselves. As doctors we'll treat lots of criminals, so what if theres a slight blight on our own backgrounds.

The message this gives out to other kids who've been told to not follow a life of crime isn't great, is it? Whats the point if, even if they try to turn their life around they won't be able to follow their dreams as they want? I suppose it acts as a deterrent to a few though.

That said, his offer was conditional so there shouldn't be some uproar about it, not like they let him in and then said actually we've changed our minds... Hasn't UCL accepted him or something?

Not from what I heard. Silly sod wants to go into Optometry or something and then have another go at Medicine later. He's probably going to get the same answer for ANY healthcare career for a while. Sad, but he's best going into something else entirely that doesn't require an enhanced CRB check.

Will you stop showing off A2 law, it's hardly impressive!

Anyway the fool must have done something other than entering the house (as you know) so not coming up with a good excuse, or at least showing the proper remorse...

Well, let's just say with over half of people not getitng into medical school, some folks lose out for much worse reasons.

and worse peeple get places too, judging by some of the trollopes i've met at med skool. ALso read THIS -

BBC NEWS | England | Merseyside | Son gets life for killing parents

if the police hadnt caught this guy, then he'd be teaching some of you anatomy this year!!

since the admissions system at nottingham (and other places where you need to fancy yourself as a ead boy or captain or leading sportsmen crap) actually favours an extreme narcissist over a non-narcissist, i dont think he's a lone example, although he's probably the worst i've eard of.

just fink about who you will be sitting next to this autumn...
