Mature students - Imperial

I thought this was more relevant to Mature students rather than the Imperial subgroup. Plus you all seem to speak a language I understand in this subgroup.

Have any mature students with degrees/qualifications had an interview at Imperial and been offered a place?

My interview is coming up and I'm getting nervous. You can handle the stress of finals yet get worried over a 15 minute interview. *sheesh* ops:

hi,

i had an interview last week at IC and am a mature. It didn't last that long, and they were quite nice. The questions were pretty straightforward - why IC? why Med? etc. Plus they give u a question to look at 30 mins before your interview. The best thing to do is to answer them with confidence. Some ppl have said that the interviewers 'insult' u during the ethical question... but that depends on who u get. Anyway, be prepared for grilling... but maintain your confidence and you'll be fine. Try not to give in that easily to their point of view - you'll get plenty of time to think abt your ethica question - think abt arguments that could be made against your opinion etc. Good luck!

hey congrats on the interview!
i had mine last week and it turned out ok (i think! :? )

I already graduated from IC so i got there just before the interview, they handed out that ethical question thingy and i just made sure i had an idea of what to say. I was in there for 15 mins although it felt longer and the questions were pretty standard-why med? how did your experience help? what wrong with the nhs? how would you solve these probs? how would you solve the problem of shortage of nurses  , why medicine and not nursing? I thought it went really bad when i got out but looking back now i'm not sure, this was my first interview and first experience of a med interview so i was pretty traumatised! but it seems much better now Am waiting for a reply now...

I had 3 people, one prof from A&E, one arsy otho surgeon and a 5th year student. they were pretty poker faced but very polite

what other med schools have you applied to?

btw i'm a newbie! i been visiting this forum loads but couldn't register for ages due to an "internal error" anyway i finally made it and just wana say thanks to all the people who put so much feedback and positive advice on here-it is really helpful....(i know v v cheeesy ops: )

Good Luck!

I've been talking to some SHOs as well as reading some medical ethics texts to get my brain into the right gear. My biggest worry is answering the "Why do you want to be a doctor?" adequately without it sounding too trite. I know why, but it's getting across the intensity and passion I feel!

Thanks for the comments She-raa, they're definitely things to think about that's for sure. I don't think it's going to a productive week at work this week! Rather preoccupied! :?

Well, I've been rejected from my other three choices, so fingers crossed for this one. Let's see!

Is it really a two week wait before hearing whether you've got a place? If so, the time is going to drag! :?

Have any of you mature students been offered a place? Imperial doesn't mention the number of graduate places they offer.
