No that imperial have raised there entry requirements..

to AAAb for 2008 entry, is it fair to assume that there will be fewer applicants?

Well lets see. Do more or fewer students achieve three A's, or two A's and a B grade at A-Level?
So based on that, do you think the number of applicants will go up, or go down?

You might want to avoid PBL.

its not safe to assume anything. tbh, you shouldnt even be considering the varying yearly application numbers. You cant win if you play the numbers game.

Its a fair question - just ignore Jonny hes probably just bitter because of his crappy results

Its logical to assume that there will be less people able to apply because there will be less actually making the grades.

However, it may be the case (and I think it probably is) that many candidates already had AAAb when applying to such a competative med school so perhaps the difference wont be so significant.

Also, don't underestimate the lure of an 'elite med school' that only accepts 'the best'. Much like Oxbridge, I reckon it will recieve huge amounts of applicants because of this.

Jonny-R: stop being a prick. It was a perfectly reasonable question. I would have thought the number of applications to Imperial will actually increase as a result. Only time will tell...

Yeah sorry guys. Didn't mean to come across harsh!

But I think that less students acheive three A's.
Oxford and Cambridge have much fewer applicants than other medical schools. So I assumed it would follow suit, only the appropiate applicants would apply, and this number will decrease.

They are the most competitive, so only the top acheiving applicants bother to apply. This doesn't mean they have the largest number of applicants. Due to the entry requirmeants only the top acheiving applicants apply.
I have looked at the UCAS 2006 institute data, and for medecine Cambridge had ~ 1604 applicants in total (all catagories), and of this they accepted 311. So they had 5.16 APP(2d.p's).
This is very low compared to most other schools.
