Exclamation Imperial or UCL?

Hi,

I have got offers from Imperial and UCL but really need some advice on choosing my firm choice. It's a really tough decision coz I am due to graduate from UCL in two months and have enjoyed the last three years here (therefore would quite like staying). ALso, everyone has said that the UCL medical school is meant to be better than the Imperial.

However, loads of people have also said that Imperial is really good and they have also asked me to apply for a scholarship (somehow). Although it's not great in monetary terms, do you think it would help in the future when you apply for jobs? But I certainly need to bare in mind that I might not get it - I mean, loads of people apply, so I don;t suppose I really stand too much of a chance anyway.

What should I do??? Please help - I'd really appreciate your help.

Thanks

it doesnt elp in terms of job, to answer your question.
therefore you spend more to get the same as at other places.

but forced to pick one of these lesser choices, i wuld go wif ucl. multi faculty wuld count for me personally.

for instance wif access to arts course materials for free.
at ma uni, i get access to all the film, language and arts stuudents video collection, which means i neva ave to use blockbusta video in ma student life, ave a massive amount of literature at and for free, and a vast range of clubs and societies involving the arts and experts in the arts that a tech college doesnt provide, and i can pick and choose language courses from over two undred language cassettes.

and thats just one example of the benefit of multi-fac, and why i choose this place over, say, stgeorges.

Also, you wuld do well to ignore any post that involves prestige and reputation and league tables, although thats been pointed out a million times already on NMM by a million peeple so i wont stress the issue too much.

(i like this song! (theme from 'OUSE BUNNY, me fav film this year). it reminds me of 'iro Nakamura lost in NY, or posh chinesey georgies medics wandering off campus into town, or me at freshers week hehehe)

Imperial isn't as fully science based as people make out. They also teach a variety of technology degrees (no. 1 in the world for this), business (the Tanaka Business school) and they offer additional humanities courses for students if they wish to take them, with extra marks available for students who do. Still, you will probably find you spend most of your time with medics just like at all other med schools, even if you come intending to make sure you have variety in friends.

As for which one to pick, Imperial would probably be a good choice. You'd probably enjoy the change from the environment you've been in for 3 years, especially considering you're looking at the next 6 years of your life. Imperial also takes you to hospitals in NW london with very good reputation, such as Charing Cross, Hammersmith and St Mary's. With regards to jobs at the end of med school, as long as you do very well, you can probably get in anywhere you want from almost any medical school. Still, you are more likely to make the connections and get jobs at the Imperial hospitals if you go to Imperial.

UCL also has nice hospitals like the University College hospital but I don't know much about them. At the end of the day, it's your choice; Imperial is consistently ranked higher than UCL in the league tables for both medicine and overall .
