Post Is 6 years at Imperial worth it?if u can go for a five year course at a different?

If u got 2 offers: say 1 at Imperial and 1 at Queen MAry's. Which one would u choose?

The med. course at Imperial is SIX years but at Queen's its only 5 years?

So which one would you choose? and why?

One doctors whom i waz talking 2 said that if he had the chance he would choose Queens because its a year less(and that no one cares which med schl u com frm!)

yeah-dr c is right-imperial do a compulsory iBSc, which may help in the long run as it is something which may be a plus ponit on the MTAS system. however, what i have come to realise is that every (london) med school has advantages and disadvantages and that overall, yer cant really rank one atop the other in general, but for some people, a specific med school will have real good advantages eg location etc. for me, imperial is the one, simply due to location, ive got mates who go there and its got a good course.

btw, i think qm does have a iBSc, its just that it isnt compulsory and is only open to those who achieve a certain score overall by the end of the 1st 3 years.

A student can opt to intercalate during every medical course I've ever looked into - except graduate medicine courses, which are all about getting qualified as quickly as possible.

As for Imperial, it's a top medical school. Whether it takes six years or five to graduate, anyone sensible would be delighted to study there... and I study at Manchester.

It is a matter of personal preference as much as anything else... if you prefer one medical school over the other then that is the one that you'd probably be best off going to - if you don't like the idea of a compulsary intercalated degree then go for Queen Mary's, if you do then go for Imperial. As DH2005 says, you can intercalate - either a BSc, MSc or even PhD depending on when you chose to do it - at all medical schools, so it's not as if that is a unique feature of Imperial.
The same thing goes for the myriad of other factors that will be different between the two: teaching styles, location etc... Just go with the one that you think you'll enjoy more.

Imperial. Here's why:

Imperial make everyone do an intercalated BSc. With the competition amongst doctors hotting up for jobs, this is something definitely worth having. Not everyone at other medical schools gets to do this (I think it's based on the previous years' exam scores). Plus, it'd also suck having to do this while some of your friends dont so you graduate at different times.

IC is better then QMUL but for Medicine Barts and The London has a great rep anyway and besides, you're right that no one really cares where you're from as a doctor.

But yeah, the main reason is the BSc.

Oh and IC is in beautiful South Ken but The London is in skanky Whitechapel.

i am a volunteer in A&E and all the doctors i have talked to have said that it is an extremly good idea to have the extra degree because knowing how to do research can be really useful. theres loads of options and its a potential break from the hard work in the core medical course.

BUT ALSO - queen mary offer the intercalated bsc to the top 100 (approx)students but in imperial its compulsory. im not sure where i read it but apparently, if you have good reason, you dont have to do it! hope this helped

so its better to be forced to do summat than ave a choice? hmmmm...
i fort we'd reached the conclusion that a random Bsc doesnt elp wif jobs later on. So zero reason there.

why? wuld you be capable of mekking friends in one year and none elsewhere then? zilch answer, again.

therefore a zilch answer, by your own admission.

dubble the cost in pies, rent and living. So thats not even a zilch answer, its a negative answer.

if anyone wants a reason why they shuld choose BL over ICSM then this is a useful post, i wuld say.....

funny ow all the peeple who say they'd pick Imperial over BL anyday are the peeple who avent lived in either and ave merely read a prospectus.... such a good way of choosing where to spend a seventh of your life time....

you'd almost be tempted to fink that Imperial deliberately market towards foreigners who aint got the opportunity to mek an informed choice.....
oops, out wif the truth!
