Imperial Interview

Hi peeps,

Hope everyones ok and enjoying this blooming freezing weekend. Was asked the other day to type up something re. my imperial interview, so here goes:

I arrived middayish for a tour of the campus, it really is worth making it for the tour if you can, as well as you having the opportunity to visit the campus, get really excited and decide that you really want to go to the college, you are also able to chat to people who are in exactly the same situation as you and soon find yourself relaxing (well as relaxing as much as you can pre interview).

We then all waited in the med students common room for the afternoons “topic for discussion” to be handed out. Apparently this is usually about an ethical issue, the question the previous day had been along the lines of “should obesity be treated on the NHS?”, my topic was “how to prevent patients feeling as if they are on a conveyor belt”. It is advised on the sheet not to discuss the topic with the other candidates, so silence ensued for a few minutes of frantic scribbling/staring into space (mine was the latter!).

I then had to wait a couple of hours because my interview was scheduled for quite late. When called the panel was really really lovely, comprising of 2 consultants and a student. The interview began with a discussion about the topic, and then followed general questions about my p.s, followed by “where do you see yourself in 10 years time?”, “what challenges face today’s g.ps?”, “how would you like to be remembered re your time at med school?”, “was there a defining point for deciding on medicine”.

All in all it was a fair interview, however afterwards I didn’t feel very confident and convinced myself that I had done really badly. I remarked to someone later that evening that although I didn’t think I’d done very well in the interview, I had actually had quite a good day because the other applicants and the students showing us around the college had been so friendly.

Anyway, hope this helps someone.

Good luck to everyone with interviews coming up,

Lots of love

B xxx

Ditto. Except for the interview bit. My topic was whether all fertility treatment should be offered on the NHS, something i knew very little about. My Chair interviewer really grilled me on it and tried to put me under maximum pressure to answer, this was followed by some nice easy questions to which after the onslaught, my mind went blank, I recovered to do quite wll in the last two or three questions but I knew it was a case of too little too late. I week later I received the letter to say I was rejected.

One down three to go,
