Don't stress too much!!

I'm actually a fifth year medic at imperial at the moment and am one of the student advocates on the interviews. Had a look thru and thought I'd drop a line to say that you guys are probably stressing quite a bit about the exams! If you've applied and have at least ABB then most of the battle's won.

The BMAT is new so most of the guys will be pretty lenient on the results - you're more likely to be asked what was in it than a focus on your results. the big thing is your personal statement - i know that you've probably all sent your UCAS forms already but in the interviews that's what we focus on - it's the only thing we have to get to know you so we'll ask about anything and everything you've put on it. before your interviews read thru it and if you think that there's stuff you could have put on it, during the interview bring it up.

when you arrive you'll also be given a ethics question to pondeer on before hand - last year's was "should an alcoholic be given a liver transplant?" don't worry we don't expect you to come up with in-depth medical knowledge but just to show that you can look at both sides of the argument and don't come across as overly moralistic.

this is bit of a long posting but if you have any more questions feel free to ask!!

6A*s and 3As in IGCSE.
4As in AS Level (Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics.)
Continuing all four to A2 Level.
BMAT.........we'll just see what happens.
Interview ages away.

one question - do you guys get given an interview before you sat the BMAT? or is it conditional on what your scores are?

If its the latter, Imperial may say that they want this and that but the interview is still the single most important thing. the interview panel may be pretty understanding about the test and if your school isn't fab (and lets face it, some are pretty crappy) you can convince the panel that you've worked amazingly well in difficult circumstances.

oh by the way, just a general point - the panel may not ask you directly about this stuff but you have a opportunity at the end to ask questions and this is probably the best time to get across points that haven't come up before.

Hey Kaira,

Nah I didn't get any interview invitation yet. Med schools requiring the BMAT are keeping that stage until after the BMAT so they can short-list the number of applicants they have to interview.

the BMAT is scary but who isn't scared!
its really nice to know this info before we go into the test and i soo hope they dont take much notice of the BMAT! im worried i wont finish section 2 in time - which is quite silly seeing how we r meant to know this section quite well!

I am also applying to Imperial 2006, I am taking IB
Predicted Score is 42 (out 0f 45)
Math 6
Chem 7
Bio 7
Spanish 7
English 6
History 6
Im really really really really worried bout the BMAT, dont think I am prepared at all, I have very little background in Physics, so I am pretty sure I'll lose some points for that part, Im trying to focus on the Essay, as, from what I hear, its worth the most points, and if you do well on that, than average scores in the other two parts are fine..

For the interview, Im not really stressing, Yet, as it seems like a ways away, but when the time comes, im sure ill be stressing majorly...

Hey, so much goin on this year with interviews and exmas and offers etc, lots very academically able applicants by the look of it, with 3 days and counting till BMAT, was wondering if any of these rumours about minimum bmat scores have any truth as ive searched this topic and found no answers, and also is it me, or is the bmat more of a test of speed, than intelligence?

Hmmm did any of you get TWO emails from Imperial?

They sent me a confirmation email for medicine a few days ago, and then just yesterday I received another confirmation email (that's identical, I believe). Odd.
