Essential cell bio V.S The Cell
Okay, so i've been hearing both of the above titles floatin around these forums and i'm really confused as to which is the better one !
This thread goes out to all the existing students to get their views.
Which is basically better: Essesential Cell Biology OR The Cell
Peace.
P.S: i'm asking this not becuase i;m some eager beaver to get hold of some textbooks but because i've got a stash of unused book tokens nearing thier expiry !!!!

which textbook
The Cell is a very concise textbook aimed at biologists. Essential Cell Biology is a reduced version of this book and is more than adequate for the first two years of the Molecules, Cells and Disease course (MCD). You can always use The Cell at one of the libraries as a reference book although this will probably be unnecessary.

Oh right okay.
Which of the two are used more by students?
Ive heard that Essenial Cell Biology become obsolete after the first year whereas The Cell can be used in other years aswell?? Any truth in that ?

Textbook
You should really wait until term starts as lecturer recommendations are always helpful. Also the course is always being tweaked a little every year and so the content might vary from one year to the next. I would bet Essential Cell Biology is still being used by most students and will be the one to buy.
If you want a lovely shiney book to keep on your bookshelf and have a perverse facination in the minute deatils of cell cycle proteins buy The Cell (£50.00 amazon). If you want a good textbook to get you throught the first two years (because who gives a shit about molecular biology after that?!) then buy Essential Cell Biology (£34.50 amazon)
