Anyone know how big the twin rooms are usually? I was a bit gutted yesterday but I guess it won't be so bad. Evelyn gardens looks like a nice place to live and not too far from Stamford bridge to do a bit of gloating every now and then Just hope the rooms aren't like matchboxes. And kitchens shared between 20 people eh? That sounds like a lot of people for one kitchen and fridge/freezer! Must be huge?

sheero, I suggest you post in medical admissions if you havent already done so - you'll get more replies and advice. Anyway, I agree with Helena, she's a smart cookie - doing a non-science subject will improve your chances from my experience. However, if you think you'll come out with a better grade in physics and are able to do loads of extracurricular stuff then you could do all sciences without hurting your chances I think.

Still nothing on the accomodation front

I wouldn't worry about it, some of the letters are dated at the end of July so they're probably just putting things in envelopes now and everything already sorted. Mind you I send all my mail to Imperial by registered post which kinda forces them to sort it out asap instead of throwing it onto a pile!

OK, Fisher is a hole (and is still a hole - no amount of tinkering with it over the past few years has made it any nicer). Honestly, some of the rooms in Fisher are so small that the beds are like bunk-beds over the doors. And I reckon the social life there isn't up to much either.

Linstead is a wicked hall actually. Lots going on, rooms are reasonable and not too expensive considering you get meals during the week in the price. Thing about meals is that next year they won't be served in the hall, you'll have to eat them in College. But you'll be in College anyway so it'll just make it easier for you to get there.

Twin rooms are usually a fair bit bigger than singles (about twice the size). They measure the areas of all the rooms and take note of the shapes (in case the room has a big area but is a really stupid shape) and if a room is too small then they won't use it for a twin generally. I wouldn't worry, you won't get stiffed on size of room and a twin is often an excellent way to get to know someone else. Loads of people turn up on the first day wanting to get moved out of a twin and often there is nothing that can be done (unless someone wants to swap with them - unlikely - or someone doesn't turn up), but some of these people end up enjoying living in the twin after a while and get on with their roomate, realise it's not much more hassle and it's a whole lot cheaper and don't bother persuing it any futher - so please don't panic about it! (unless your end up unable to stand your roomate after a few weeks )

In fact, I have a friend who lived in a twin room last year and her roomate was rarely there - it was like having a much bigger room all to herself most of the time!

Coolio (wow, I've never said that before). Sounds good.

Question about freshers week(s) though. Do all the medics just bugger off and do their own thing or do most people do a mix of both hall & medic events?

your choice! there are separate medics' events. if i was doing freshers' again, i would do a mixture of the two so that you meet lots of different people...
