Wireless or not

Hey all, sorrie to start a new thread but I'm having real trouble looking for a laptop. Dell have got some good deals on + I think they end tomorrow. Do you guys have any suggestions? Also to get back to the title of this thread, is getting a laptop with internal wireless/Intel Centrino (I think they're the same!) a good idea when it comes to plugging it into a comp data point? I mean cos it's wireless would there just be no lead coming out/wouldn't work. Please can someone post a reply if they're sure that wireless is ok, as I hear this is the latest technology. I don't wanna come to uni with an incompatible laptop!
Thank you v v v v much

k Maya - theres wireless in the library and in a couple of halls but pretty much all wireless laptops have the space for a wire in any case - called an ethernet port - i havent seen a laptop made after 2000 without one - id say u go for the centrino - better battery life and lighter

get the wireless one - it will have a normal port for a cable anyway if you move into a big house after first year and want internet there it will be much easier if you get a wireless router rather than have wires trailing around all over the place!

oo zoe has a face! lol

Yeah bit off the original topic - but do you think a lap top is really necessary for the first year? I've had a load of people telling me different things, and I'm confused! I know I'll have to get one eventually, but was just wondering how much access you need to a computer in the first year.

Cheers! xx

yeh, will i really need to bring a laptop in the first year? are the uni computers not always available.. and will i need my own printer? cos a friend said that at uni, you have to pay for every page you print and that its better to have your own printer.

Hi, thanks for all the advice guys! I've gone for wireless and have ordered the laptop from dell. Lol, I should have known that computer companies would have thought about these things! Anyway I'm only getting one cos I've had this computer for 7 years! It's like pentium II. Woah is that old or what! So I just thought I deserved an ickle treat.
I can't wait til my freshers pack arrives!

maya! from your name i assume you sing. you therefore must join choir/music soc (and that applies to everyone else as well regardless of whether you can really sing or not), it is uber fun!! see more at www.icsmms.co.uk!

Hi Zoe, yes I am a singer and I intend to join the music society the first chance I get. The website looks so cool. I can't believe you go on tour every 2 years! That is something. I belonged to a children's choir for 5 years and the closest I got to a tour was 2 nights in Brussels, lol. I've had a long summer break from singing so I can't wait to get started again.
