If it's any help Brian, I did the reverse commute last year, I was living in York and working in Leeds. The commute killed me -- counting traipsing to and from the station, I lost two hours a day just travelling.
I wouldn't want to be doing that while studying medicine.
Cheers exms - it's all very hypothetical at the minute. I have an interview at HYMS but I live in Leeds. There's a chance that I could state a preference for the York campus, if I was sucessful. I think I would give it a go for a few months anyway to see what it was like. But there are so many other variables - just trying to weigh up the pros and cons of everything at the minute!
Check out hull vs york poll forum for my in depth say on hull , im slightly biased being from hull, studying at hyms in hull though. I would definatley say though for a better social life come to hull (not to say york hyms students dont have a social lif e but us hullies do seem to get out and party a lot more
I'm at HYMS York, and there are at least 2 people I know of that commute from Leeds, one drives and one trains in, both seem to do manage very well AND incorporate some part time work ..... I live on campus and don't seem to manage either!
thanks for your reply. I haven't even had my interview yet so I'm being a bit premature, but I was wondering...
I read in the bumpf that if you live within a 30 mile radius you can request a specific campus (only after an offer). If I (a) managed to get in and (b) managed to get on to York Campus, how realistic would it be for me to expect to be able live in Leeds for all of my degree or would there be a time when I really would need to move closer to campus?
What year are you in? Are you enjoying the course?
I phoned admissions. I'm not sure if all the offers have been given out, but the lady did say that rejections given today are waiting list people. Letters will follow next week. Good luck
