Accomodation

Just out of interest if there are any current HYMS students around - what do you think of the accomodation options where you are? Good/bad, pros/cons?

Also, how does accomodation work during years 3-5 when you are being shuffled around placements?

I'm in first year in Hull at the minute, and in a student house.
Accommodation should be something you think about when you get your allocation, really, but should you get placed in Hull, the best thing to opt for is a student house. The other option is Taylor court flats, which, although have en-suite rooms, are much more expensive. This year there are 5 medics in Taylor court, and 75 in student houses. The numbers say it all really.

I can't tell you about 3 to 5, I think there's some older years kicking about on these forums though.

Accommodation in York is alright. I have an en suite because I don't share bathrooms :-P Medics aren't placed in Vanbrugh or Wentworth colleges and you should be living with at least one other medic.

In years 3-5 on your rotations that aren't your base locations (ie York or Hull) you'll be given free hospital accommodation. Most people have houses in either York or Hull for the weekends to keep in touch with friends/go out and get wasted/etc, and for when they're rotation lands in their base location.
