E-mail for admissions tutor....
I recieved an email this morning from the admissions tutor:
"We have received your UCAS application to study Medicine at HYMS in 2010.
We shall require an academic reference from a tutor at the University of Birmingham and I would be grateful if you could please arrange for this to be sent directly to me on this email address as soon as possible. The reference should include confirmation that you were in good academic standing with the university.
I look forward to hearing from your tutor.
Best wishes,
Julia"
Why did I get this?? Surely if the provided ref is good enough I should get interview? My reference was from a director of an education company, as I currently am a teacher and left university in 2008. I have forwarded my e-mail to my tutor at university straightaway, bbut now I'm worried my reference is not going to be good enough :s
UKCAT: 743
Warwick GEP - Interviewed - OFFER!
Imperial GEP - Interviewed - Rejected

I wouldn't worry, it sounds like they just want the additional information about how you performed throughout your degree and don't consider your current reference comes from an academic source. They will probably then use both to make a decision regarding interview.

Maybe it would be a good idea for you to email HYMS saying what you just said. Often someone has a job to do and they do it without thinking....

I got a reply too from the same lady saying....
We have received your application to study Medicine at HYMS in 2010.
It would appear from your CV that you are currently taking a gap year, but I would be grateful if you would please confirm this, and the plans you have for the year.
Thank you very much.
Best wishes,
Julia

YaALI786, i got exactly the same email. I don't think its anything to worry about, I just think they want a clearer picture of your plans as there will be a number of reapplicants/gappers. I didn't write much in my personal statement about what i was going to do this year as i wanted to be clear on the experience i had already achieved so they probably wanted a few more details with me.
Applying to:
HYMS (interviewed 6th January)UNCONDITIONAL OFFER!!
Nottingham (interview 3rd March)REJECTION
St Andrews (interviewed 14th December)UNCONDITIONAL OFFER!!
Lancaster (interviewed 26th November)UNCONDITIONAL OFFER!!

Yeh they just want to know that you wont be doing just nothing all year and that you will make the time you have worthwhile before med school.
