All the HYMS buildings were purpose designed, including those on both the Hull and York university campuses, and on all the hospital sites, so they are all well equipped! Obviously the library facilities on both campuses were already in existance when HYMS was created, so are a bit older - although they are well stocked! I found 2 books that I'd quite like to see in the library last month, and within 2 weeks of suggesting them to the HYMS librarian they were there on both campuses!

I think both are in june or july- its pretty late given that most other unis are already sorting out accomodation for those people who have put their uni as firm. Will be worth the wait though

Hey, can any current students please tell me where the 2-5th year York allocated HYMS students tend to live? Is it in or around heslington still? And in ur 3-5th years when students are placed all over yorkshire, are we still tied to the rule of having to live within 30 miles of either campus when not at placements? Thanks in advance! xx

Hey,
Not sure where the Yorkies live, but I'm sure one will be along soon to let you know....
As for phase 2 and 3, if you're not on your base site you get provided occomodation anyway.... some people choose not to have accomodation other than that to save money, but I would imagine that when you are in your base site you would need to be within 30 miles... I'm not sure if they enforce it, but it's fairly intensive so commuting more than that would be a hassle!
For example our GP in York is a good 35-40 minutes drive from York, and to add another 30 on top would be a nightmare... But you will find out your rotations for the year in the Feb eraly March of the previous academic year, so you can adjust your living arrangements accordingly.

i loved york and dont mind hull but hyms doesnt have the same teaching reputation as most other unis(eg newcastle, birmingham). do people think this affects your employability later on?

Apparently employers cant see which med skul u go to when u apply for your foundation yrs but the only thing that stopped me firming hyms was the fact that it is so new and that theres not enough people that have graduated yet, i mean this was the first lot of hyms grads, to know the value of a hyms degree.
For me, it was too much of a risk of balancing hyms degree value against leeds degree value and thats why i ended picking leeds.
But i suppose its your choice thats my opinion but before anyone says anything, its nothing personal against hyms. if it had more grads in the world of work i would have no doubt firmed it, its just a risk when everyones competing for jobs in the future and despite what anyone says if your from a more well known and established med school you are more favoured by interveiwers etc
