Bed, desk, wardrobe, chair. Usually a sink if the room isn't en suite. There'll be a full length mirror somewhere in the room.

And does anyone know whether it is possible to share you specify at the York campus or Hull campus? And how much that would approx cost?

Not quite sure what you were asking with the last one.
With regard to the kitchens at York, it all depends on where you end up. In my first year we had a corridor for a kitchen which contained a babybell oven, a toaster, a kettle and a sink. We used a microwave out in the main corridors occasionally.
In second year I briefly stayed in slightly better accommodation and we had: a baby bell oven with two ovens instead of one, with the electric plates on the top, a microwave, a toaster and a kettle. It was bigger and had a table! We had a better fridge/freezer share too, with only 10 people sharing rather than 18, which we had in the smaller kitchen.
All student kitchens are pretty basic. People often bring their own stuff, like George Foreman grills, sandwich toasters etc. Some people bring their own fridges but it's not strictly allowed.

Wow... sounds difficult!
In uni accom in Hull, I had a full kitchen between 4 with oven, hob, microwave, kettle, toaster, fridge-freezer, iron and board.... There was some cooking stuff like pans and trays, but most people tend to bring their own basics, plus plates and cutlery etc. Again, I brought my George Foreman grill too (couldn't live without it!!!) I also had an extra fridge (not allowed) in my room, but just used to keep drinks etc in that really.

Laundry facilities in the house-simply a washer, just bring an airer and you're set!
There is somewhere to do your laundry 5-10 mins up the road from the main houses in Hull if you want to do loads, or get them dried there and then which is useful, but everything is fine with just 1 washer
And anything else? Just bring a big smile and be friendly

Random question - what's the situation with bringing cars to York? From what I gathered at my interview at Hull cars weren't a problem, but am curious about York!

Hmm, not likely. Parking is very limited on campus. Getting a permit is dependent on your college if living on campus and on your postcode once you're off.
You'll be able to park your car but not keep it there, is the most likely scenario.
