PMS vs. HYMS ---- Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hiya,
Is there anyone who can honestly say they would choose HYMS over Peninsula, and if so, for what reasons?
HYMS is a great medical school, but I can't find a single reason as to why it would be a better choice than Peninsula. Help me out here!!!
To me it seems like Peninsula has exactly the same (+ higher rated) academic system as HYMS, and Peninsula is in a much warmer area.
Among other factors in my final decision, PMS beat HYMS in this years medical school rankings (guardian.co.uk).
Has anyone ever chosen HYMS over PMS and why?
Thanks,
ChrisMedicine 2008 !!!!

But HYMS absolutely owned Peninsula in the Times University Rankings, and I'm more inclined to go with those than the Guardian's.
Furthermore, HYMS is more central and has quicker access to places like Manchester, Liverpool, London, and the Peak District. Also, I dunno about PMS but HYMS has one of the best courses out there in terms of early patient contact and integrated learning. Plus, I've heard some students from PMS say they're unhappy with it, which is something I've not heard from anyone who attends HYMS.
But it's your choice, of course. If you like surfing, PMS might be for you!

It might be (slightly) warmer, but it rains just as much down here. If you are expecting Caribbean weather then you are going to be disappointed.
Regarding prices, I did my first degree at a northern university, and the prices were no different compared to down here. Wherever there are students, prices go up.
You could try and visit both the unis and see what you think. I think the courses are pretty similar: both contemporary, clinically oriented, PBL...
Personally, I would never want to live in Hull.

You should also consider what the Universities are doing in terms of research. Peninsula seems to be making more effort to promote itself in that area than HYMS. If you look on their website they have attracted some top academics from London universities. They have also gained more places for admission of students onto their course, and their's a new dental school to consider, which means that you have the opportunity to interact with students other than those on your course.

So you pay £52 a week for all inclusive rent (ic broadband, bills and tv license) down south do you?
As a graduate I find the cheaper living costs a god send!

But HYMS beat peninsula and many others in the times league table for medicine, see http://extras.timesonline.co.uk/gug/...bject=MEDICINE. Don't put too much stock into league tables..just visit the places, look around the websites (www.hyms.ac.uk and peninsula's) and talk to current students at both med schools. I only know of people who chose HYMS over places such as Nottingham, Leeds, Aberdeen and Leicester...tbh I dont know anyone who applied to Peninsula. Good Luck!
Well, he's kind of had it in for me ever since I accidentally ran over his dog. Actually, replace "accidentally" with "repeatedly," and replace "dog" with "son."

I wouldn't put anything in the league tables. They put Oxford at the top (sorry Cambridge in this case with Oxford 1 thousandth below it
)and the others seem to be allocated at random or based on very spurious criteria.....
Go and see what you think, although I second that I wouldn't want to live in hull
