the main reason i would pick hyms over pms is the peeple living around yorkshire, in contrast to the the community round the south west.
although i've never lived in the south west of course, the prospect of living wiff friendly northern peeple (i'm talking of course about the patients, not the students - students will be gone in three years, its your community you work wif that counts much more) rather than the population of the Property Coast is more appealing.
and the budget fing of course.Last edited by Gizmo says -; 05-04-2008 at 12:26 PM.

It might be worth mentioning that the course structures are not all that identicle, a main feature of the HYMS course is that it is "guided" PBL where the learning objectives are given to you. But haveing said that, a guy from keele told me that learning objectives are not what is hard about PBL but the amount of depth you have to go into so it may not exactly be the greatest difference in the world.

Agreed
I dont want to get in to an argument about how friendly the people are down here compared to up north. You have your views about the people/community in London (which I agree with to an extent), but this is not the south east, it is the south west. People say that the south west is a retirement capital, and this is true in some areas, but anyone going in to medicine should enjoy the company of old people!
All I can say is I enjoy living here - it is a very nice, laid back part of the world, and im looking forward to studying here for the next 5 years.

I am so confused. I think the OP should remember why they applied to each uni in the first place, and just go from there.

1. GMC put in place guidelines for good medical practice, including fitness to practice. If 60% of any course in the UK failed regulations (which means 60% would fail), it would hit the newspapers with IMPACT! The fact that this is not common knowledge suggests that this is inaccurate information in extremis!
2. I've yet to encounter students from any PBL course that do not have moans and groans about structure and depth. It's actually part of the process, learning to identify the depth required.
Edit: I have no COI. I have nothing to do with PMS or HYMS! I went to the best med school in the UK, tho :-)Last edited by yazoo; 06-04-2008 at 01:56 AM.

I've heard a variation of that urban legend, but I think people may be getting it mixed up with the warwick medics examination failure fiasco where a third of the students failed and no could understand why and a number of students had to resit or something....there was an article about it in Student BMJ newsletter last year.
Well, he's kind of had it in for me ever since I accidentally ran over his dog. Actually, replace "accidentally" with "repeatedly," and replace "dog" with "son."
Bender: I'm very generous. What about that time I gave blood?
Fry: Whose blood?
Bender: Some guy's.
