lol, im sorry buddy but PMS produced one of the worst 1st graduates by any medical school! 60% failed GMC regulations! Ive heard many med students from there complain about the course structure and depth.
I dont mean to completely put you off that medical school, I mean the wheather must be nicer, but I know wich medical school i'd rather choose!"One must speculate to accumilate"- ata (1988-)

Hull is not the only place we're based in. Its the Hull York med school so you're based in either Hull or York for the first two years, then for phase 2 you're rotated around the whole region which includes scarborough, s****horpe..etc. Prospective students usually bum the idea of being allocated to York, so if Hull is putting you off remember that you could also be allocated to York. HYMS rules esp the girls rugby team!!!!!!!!
Well, he's kind of had it in for me ever since I accidentally ran over his dog. Actually, replace "accidentally" with "repeatedly," and replace "dog" with "son."
Bender: I'm very generous. What about that time I gave blood?
Fry: Whose blood?
Bender: Some guy's.

Wow that is cheap. No you wont get a place for £52 all inc down here, but up north I paid £55 excluding bills. Actually, im not sure that there are many places in the country where you will get it that cheap: maybe it says something about the city.
I spoke to a top RD&E consultant who said that the new graduates from Peninsula had been very impressive. He is in a good position to know, and has no reason to be biased or lie about it.
Id like to know where you got your information from.
Complaining about structure and depth?? - I bet those student wished they were on a more traditional course. PMS and HYMS are both contemporary courses, so that student would have been just as unhappy at HYMS. Remember which unis we are comparing here...

Ok firstly, I admit I got that information second hand but in all fairness it was from an East Anglia med school lecturer who got his info from a GMC newsletter.
Secondly, even though both unis are PBL based, I think it would be very naive to say that both courses are identical. PBL is very easy to mess up if you dont have good structure, foundation and good source of help if things arnt going right, and thats what the PMS students where complaining about. Again, ive not seen any of this first hand so im jst going on what ive heard."One must speculate to accumilate"- ata (1988-)

It doesn't matter WHERE you are. it's how much effort YOU are willing to put in. If you have a passion to learn Medicine, you will excel at either site.

Ok, well what this UEA lecturer said completely contrasts what I have been told.
Obviously the courses are not identical, but after reading both prospectuses they sound similar. 'Many' PMS students have told you that the support structure is not good - going through the PMS threads on here the message is that the support structure is very good (and this was backed up by the students I spoke to on interview day). Tbh, I think there will always be people who do not like their university course, and people who just do not get on with PBL.
One thing for PMS - Tooke led the MMC enquiry and it is expected that many of his recommendations will be implemented in the future. If he is trusted to direct medical career progression in the NHS, then we should be confident in his ability to run a good med school.

Thats one of the main reasons i chose to apply to that uni... a;ll things considered tho, HYMS is for me... what persianmedic said is very true tho, at the end of the day you can end up in the worst med school but if YOU have the ability, it can make you an even better Doctor...
