Question Accommodation advice re York site

What sort of accommodation can you choose from if you get allocated York as your university for medicine? In the prospectus it just says you are allocated to one of the eight undergraduate colleges or associated residences. Can some one please explain the choices we will be given when HYMS contact us. (and also experiences of the different options please). I particularly do not understand the York set-up, but am now clued up on Hull. Thanks to anyone who is a York med. student to find time to help.

hi, im at york, living in Alcuin college. You get an accomodation form that asks if u want ensuite, or not. You can put down a request for a particular college (if says on the form that the college being near your subject area is not a good enough reason, but I put it down anyway and they gave it to me!)

Nearly everyone lives in colleges, but there are student houses that you can live in i think. Alcuin college is the one right next door to the medical school, which is really ideal. It's the only ensuite college (James, however, is mostly ensuite, and there's a new Vanbrugh extension that's meant to be amazing).

Alcuin, however, is quite a lot quieter than other (less attractive colleges), perhaps because the rooms are so nice, people tend not to leave them that much!!! The other downside to Alcuin, is that it's a sort of disconnected from the other colleges - there's a bridge seperating it from the rest of the uni!

Having said all that, I'm really glad I asked for Alcuin - some of the other colleges are seriously grim looking (but in a way, more lively and fun). Depends on what you're after....although remember that medics work load is so much worse than everyone elses, so whether you're in a party college or not really doesn't matter much!!!

I'm tempted to put the graduate only college, it begins with a W down, if I choose HYMS and get York. It's obviously a matter of preference...look at the site and decide

hi Graeme...the graduate college is Wentworth. I considered it too (I'm also a graduate), and they only let people who are registered on official postgraduate courses at the uni go there....
