In phase I (years 1 and 2) you're in groups of 4 (or 5 sometimes) in your clinical placement, which is taught by one tutor in any week. In Phase II you're in groups of 3 or 4.

I think the core of the debate is to be found between the posts of Marc and Thom....

Calling a spade a spade, Hull is a bit crap - but it's very, very cheap, and you'll only be there for a couple of years, at worst. York, on the other hand, is expensive and utterly lovely... you might be lucky, either way!

Leeds is great. An excellent place to be a student, with a good med school (for the love of God, ignore the Guardian...).

I would draw particular attention to Marc's comment about thinking back upon why you applied to those med schools (and what you said to their interview panels to get those offers!) - I mean, do you want to study via lectures, or via PBL? Surely, you've thought about this... (!)

If not, send me a private message - I study PBL medicine, and I can tell you all about it.

... and well done on the offers, by the way...

I suggest a list of pros and cons matched to your own priorites. The conservative would certainly favour Leeds. You know where you will be placed, (no Hull York lottery),teaching methods that are closer to what you will be familiar with and the school is long established.

My impression of Leeds as a city, for what it is worth was not good, but that was ten years ago. I stayed in two rather dodgy areas, where houses were fitted with bars on doors and windows and crime was common, we had a car burnt out and saw a burgulary at knife point. It might be worth a thread on the Leeds site to find out about the situation for rented houses there now.

Leeds as a city is a great place to be. It has come a long long way in the 5 years i have been here. New buildings are springing up all the time. However the student areas to have somewhat of a reputation. Chestnut avenue in hyde park is famous for being the most burgled street in the UK a few years ago.

However, once again, in the time i have been here things have improved greatly. Yes, lots of houses have metal gates over the doors, and the y are not the prettiest rows of terraced houses you will see. But i feel quite safe here and have not really had many problems. I think you will find similar problems in the student areas in any large city. Students tend to live near uni, near town where the rent is cheap!

Dont let it put you off, u can always live in headingly!!!
