Dear current HYMS studes....
Having just received my offer from HYMS, I'm hoping some of you may be good enough to answer a few questions in order to help offer holders make decisions on firm and insurance?
I'll kick off:
Would you be able to post the SSC booklet from Blackboard on here so we can see what's available?
Thanks in advance all!

Hey! i'd also like to know what modules/systems are covered in the first year. Although i'm not sure wether HYMS is gonna be my firm, i'd just like to compare it to other med schools, since some schools cover more/less in yr1. Better still, if anyones knows if this info is accessable online some how, please let me know the link.

I think pretty much all of the body systems except the kidney are covered in the first year, but someone else might have to correct me on that. In the second year you revisit a lot of the body systems, but also learn about the pathology.
As for SSCs, there isn't a booklet, it's just an area on blackboard so we can't really post it here, sorry!Emily

Hiya, firstly, congrats on the offer!
I'll second Emily above, and add that 1st year is mostly normal anatomy / physiology etc, with 2nd year being mostly pathology.
As for SSC's, there are a wide variety, including languages, computer based, humanities, lab based, and some in clinical settings!
If you want any more info, don't hesitate to ask

fishie and saskia, tell us more about SSCs... if you're already at GCSE level with a language, can you still choose it as your SSC and progress further or are you expected to choose a language that you are new to? and when are we expected to choose the SSCs?

You can definately choose a language that you have a GCSE (or even A level) in, but you'd probably be very bored if you did an SSC in a language you have an A level in, especially in Phase I.
You choose the SSC for the first term pretty soon after you arrive, and after that you choose just before the end of term, ready for the next term.Emily
