Standard offer
I have just been on the Hull/York website on the admissions news page and it says
"2006 Entry - Standard Offer
Our standard offer for 2006 entry will be: Gain an A grade in A2 Biology, and AB in A2 Chemistry and another subject (excluding General Studies). We also require a b grade at AS in a 4th subject (excluding General Studies).
Please note that for a variety of reasons a particular candidate may be given a different offer. "
It doesn't say this on the prospectus, it says chemistry and biology plus another, AAB. I am a bit worried as I have only been predicted a B for biology, as this is what I got at AS. Not sure whether I should phone them or not, I don't want to waste anyones time, I probably wouldn't have applied to HYMS if I had known that standard offer.
I hope this information won't worry anyone else like it has me, I just don't know what to do now! Maybe I should just accept that this'll be a rejection.

Don't worry, there's nothing you can do at this stage. PLUS, academia is only one aspect of the application. Wait and see what they say. Do not panic, too early. You'll hear soon enough anyway. Just stick it out with the waiting!

Academia is indeed not the most important factor in selection, BUT if you don't have A level predictions that meet/exceed the minimum requirements then you probably will get rejected. Give em a ring, it cant hurt to ask. Its better than not knowing and getting really. stressed about it

It might be a good idea just to call them and point out that their prospectus is misleading! If doing that doesn't help you then at least it might help next years applicants.

Does "AB in A2 Chemistry and another subject (excluding General Studies)" mean respectively - i.e. that it must be an A in Chemistry and a B in another subject, or that they can be obtained in any order?
It's pointless worrying about it now I guess, you've already applied and can't do anything about it. As has already been said too, academics are only part of your application. If they like you enough, and think you have the potential to become a good doctor, they'll let you in.

I am not sure if it means A in chemistry but if it does I should be ok coz I have been predicted an A.
Thanks for all your advice, I will phone them up on Monday, as someone said it probably won't make much difference for me but it'll help others next year. I will post their reply, hopefully they will say its a misprint and they accept a B for biology, but I think thats just wishful thinking!

Not sure if this will make you feel any better or not but if HYMS make you an offer and you really want go there, you'll find it in yourself to get the grades.
Medicine is not an easy course and sometimes you need to go the extra mile to suceed.
Don't sell yourself short by thinking you'll get a B. Aim high!
