Isn't resurrecting a thread that is more than three years old only going to draw more attention to it? I don't mind because I don't have an objection but since some people doing...letting it lie would have done the trick.

Ugh- lets remove this thread- it does nothing for the reputation of HYMS- it's not even constructive, especially if it's made up (which, it looks like it is.) If it's not, I call for the original poster to post his verifiable sources.

Its an old old issue (damn curiosity making me spend 3 hours reading up on it!), I'd still go to HYMS, but I think sleeping dogs should be left to sleep.

I recall this survey happening and filling it in. I also recall that the results were recanted (I think it was due to inaccuracies and inherent bias in the methods used for data collection) and am unaware of how the results came to be leaked on this site. I believe that at the time the medical school said that the results would be republished, but never were.

From a personal point of view, I never experienced any overt racist or homophobic attitudes during my entire time at HYMS, but I know full well that this wasn't the case for many students.

I'm glad that you posted that Sukhdev; I think we know that there is a little more accuracy to the original post now that previously thought! I wish a link was provided to the proper published study though.

This study assessed the relation between experiences of social discrimination (homophobia, racism, and financial hardship) and symptoms of psycho logic distress (anxiety, depression, and suicidal idealization) among self-identified gay and bisexual Latino men in the United States. Data were collected from a probability sample of 912 men (self-identified as both Latino and nonheterosexual) recruited from the venues and public social spaces identified as both Latino and gay in the cities of Miami, Los Angeles, and New York. RESULTS: The study showed high prevalence rates of psychologic symptoms of distress in the population of gay Latino men during the 6 months before the interview, including suicidal ideation (17% prevalence), anxiety (44%), and depressed mood (80%).
