which one do you use at king's?
which ones can u just read through, and which ones are more for referencing? and what's an anatomy atlas for?

Hi there, I'm currently studying Anatomical Sciences at Manchester. The textbooks recommended on our course are "Clinically Oriented Anatomy" by Moore and Dalley, or "Clinical Anatomy by Systems" by Snell; have a look at them both and decide which you find easier to read.

An anatomy atlas is really more for finding your way around the body with lots of photos and diagrams of cadavers, useful in dissection, whereas a textbook will have more information about the structures.

Also another great book to consider is "Fundamentals of Anatomy and Physiology" by Martini, but I wouldn't recommend it if you have been told to buy an "anatomy" book.

    Hope this helps

That's the one I use and I would definitely recommend it!

If you are planning to do dissection then Grey has a series of step by step dissection books out, I can't remember the name exactly but on a photocopy I have here it says the publisher is Churchill Livingstone, 2007. Also for our research project we were recommended Gosling et al. "Human Anatomy: Color Atlas and Text" 5th Edition (2008). It's more like an atlas meets a textbook, but apart from that I have never used a straightforward atlas, maybe try browsing Amazon?

Or you could get the "Anatomy Coloring Book" (Kapit, Elson), which is kinda DIY textbook that is really good for learning structures and their associations

I think a lot of people buy Gray's for Students, because the pictures are quite good, even if the text is a cure for insomnia. It's the one book I bought that I probably could have done without. I prefer Moore & Agur's Essential Clinical Anatomy, though also use the bigger version from time to time, Clinically Oriented Anatomy. As for an atlas, I really like the McMinn's. Since you're at GKT, you won't need a dissection guide, as these are provided. I highly recommend getting a set of bones from the Osteology store when the announcement's made that they're available, as they do run out. Another great resource are the Wednesday afternoon revision sessions in the Dissecting Room.

I've done the preclinical years and found Clinical Orientated Anatomy good, it had more than enough information. I also bought an atlas and used it about once, so it didn't end up being very good value for money but it just depends how into your anatomy you are!
