Smile When are exams at King's??

Hi there

Does anybody know when the exams are for the 5 year MBBS course? My sister is getting married next year in January next year and I can not remember if the exams are before or after the Christmas holidays??

I know it is a bit scarey to think of exams before we have even started but I am now worried my sister's wedding is going to be in the middle of my exams!!

Thanks

The mid-sessional exam for Year 1 MBBS is usually after Christmas, however the exact date is not currently set in stone - there are some people who would like to see the exam done before the end of term. I suspect that the exam will probably be after Christmas however there is likely to be a number of small in-course assessments before the end of term.

Oh my gosh after Xmas break!! Thats terrible! Are we expected to study during break or do most people study then? What about for year 2 and onwards?

Red face

I know what a nightmare!! I really thought that they were before xmas because I had read somewhere that you had to remain at Uni until 16th December as that is when the last exam was scheduled - I am possibly getting confused with something else as there are so many bits of paper work to keep track of. It was not until I read the info we were sent the other day that had a profile of a student who mentioned exams in January that I began to panic!!! I must admit it is cruel to expect us to study over the festive season!!!

For the past two years that the new curriculum has been running, the mid-sessional exam (there is only one) was held after Christmas. Each year there is some debate as to whether the exam should be scheduled before or after Christmas - most students seem (apparently) to prefer the exam to be done after Christmas and use the Christmas break to revise. I would imagine, unless there was considerable disagreement from students that the exam will again be scheduled for after Christmas, although you will probably have an anatomy spot-test and perhaps a communication skills presentation to do before Christmas.

As you will probably be aware the current Year 2 of the new curriculum has only been running for one year - last year it was decided that there should be no mid-sessional examination although in retrospect this was perhaps not such a good idea and it may well be the case that a mid-sessional exam is introduced by the time you enter the second year.

" I had read somewhere that you had to remain at Uni until 16th December as that is when the last exam was scheduled "

The regulations say that you must be at Uni during term time (or at least not too far away). The reason the college highlight this rule is because in the past when the college changed dates of exams at short notice students have tried claiming (unsuccessfully) mitigating circumstances for not being present due to the fact that they had travelled home and not been able to book tickets quickly enough back to London etc. There were also problems back in 2001 when some Year 3 students claimed that the examinations office had been unfair when it published the results of third year examinations in two parts – some students had complained that they had wasted a journey back to the UK to collect what they thought would be their final results when in fact it was their written paper results excluding the OSCE marks. The results were published during term time and so officially they should not have been in a different country anyway.
