Year 4 - Princess Royal University Hospital
Hey
Have just found out I will be at PRUH for RSM for 1st rotation in year 4 - does anyone have any idea of whether we get accomodation or have to commute cos it seems quite a long way out from the centre!
Thanks
Al

Not being a med student yet, I don't know the answer to your question but I did have a job interview there once. And the journey was so horrible I didn't accept the job because I thought if I had to do that every day I'd end up having some kind of breakdown... There are some (semi) direct trains from elephant and castle during the week at peak commuter times, but you have to get a crappy bus at the other end which goes through the suburbs. Sorry, I realise this isn't particularly helpful.

Hi - I live in the South-East, and although it does look quite far away on a map (holed up Zone 6!), it is fairly accessible - you could most probably complete the journey in about 45-50 minutes. If you are based near London Bridge, there are regular train services to Orpington, and from Orpington train station I believe there are some bus services providing a short journey to the hospital. Do use the journey planner facility on the Transport for London website to get a rough idea of how long it might take you travelling at a specific time of the day. Hopefully you might circumvent the travelling with accomodation, but even without, you could travel fairly comfortably.
P.S: I should also mention that train services from London Bridge to Orpington are direct, so there will be no need to worry about changing transport too much. There are also direct services to Orpington from London Waterloo East/Charing Cross (the latter two form part of the same route) in addition to trains leaving from London Victoria and Cannon Street (if you happen to be nearer to those stations). London Bridge to Orpington is roughly 25-30 minutes in length.Last edited by Maelys; 24-08-2007 at 07:08 PM.

Awesome - thanks for the info! Have spoken to the college and they were willing to provide us with accomodation down there which would have been good but also managed to get them to change our placement to Guys and St. Thomas's - I had been sent to Kent for 3 months last year so only fair I think! We would have had to do some weekend on-call work and nights so travel would have been a real pain but at least now I know it is do-able!
